WJEC LAW - Anybody out there???

 Is there anybody that does WJEC Law? I am currently revising for my A2 exams and there is so much to learn!! I'm doing the 'Criminal Justice System' option and to be honest it's not that bad. We have had some funny times learning by distance learning and have covered so much material - I just hope I'm going to be able to remember it all (at least some of it!)!

Anyway, I was looking at the marks I got for my AS papers and was just wondering what they were out of? I got 85(1), 85(2) and 76(3) but I would like to know where these marks put me in the A/B grade boundaries. Mainly so I can work out if I can come out with an A overall if I do well in my A2 papers.

I have tried asking my link teacher, tutor and the exam board (no reply yet - sent it in Sep!) but nobody seems to know what the marks were converted to be out of - people only know the papers were out of 25/50/25 or something like that - which doesn't help explain where my marks lie!

Hope someone can help!

 Good luck with exams everyone

To be honest Law is definitely hard but AS is not that bad! Or maybe I'm only saying that because I carried it on! Seriously though, I didn't find the AS exams too bad - although I really had to rush LW3! Just make sure you know your cases to back up your points because that shows you know what you're talking about and will earn you lots of marks.

If you are finding it boring and don't enjoy it, then you should drop it after this year. Personally I find A2 quite a lot harder. You have a lot more cases, statutes and PACE codes (if you do the Criminal option that is!) to learn so it's even harder to get the top grades.

I'm sure you'll do better than you think - just make sure you at least know the basic points properly so you have something to build around. Also, don;t forget to plan your time - especially LW3 because you can easily get carried away answering a 5 mark question that you know inside out!

Good luck

 At last! Someone else who does WJEC Law via video-conferencing!! I have been waiting a long time for this day! haha. But seriously, it'd be great to talk and see what you think of the course! Who's your tutor?! We have a guy called Andy Dolben? Before him we had a lady called Clare Anderson.

Yep, I'm currently revising for the exams next week, doing the Criminal Justice System option also. To be honest, I have actually yet to start revising (I know, I' think I have left it too late!) Ideally I could do with about 2 weeks to go over it all, but I'm going to have to cram in all in now. I got an A at AS, which came as a total suprise as I thought I had failed miserably. I can't remember my exact marks for LW1 or LW2, they weren't that good but (somehow, and I honestly don't know how!) I got 100% in LW3 which brought the entire great up  !

I would be seriously stressing if I hadn't started revising yet - there's so much to learn!! To be honest I was surprised I got decent marks last year because I left myself with a week to revise and didn't really like the questions that much! I found LW3 fairly hard though because I didn't leave myself enough time for each question so I had to really rush at the end!

It's nice to find another distance learner though!! - there doesn't seem to be that many around! My tutor both last year and this year was Patrisha Reece-Davies.

I have enjoyed the course and found it interesting - we've had some laughs and good discussions. I find video conferencing more enjoyable than normal classroom lessons and feel I can discuss my ideas and ask questions more easily - it just seems more relaxed. Plus I like the freedom of doing my work when it suits me!!

Anyway, good luck with your cramming!

Hi Just William

How did you find the Law exams?

I thought LW4 and LW5 had a nice selection of questions. On LW4 I went for the ones about police powers and non-fatal offences (vodka spiking!!). On LW5 I went for the question on bail but forgot to mention the year of the Bail Act! and the strict liability question. Almost ran out of time on both papers though so didn't get time to proof read it!

I was worried about today's LW6 but it wasn't too bad - I thought the topic could have been a lot worse. I particularly liked the first question on the police's actions! The question I struggled with was the one about juries!

Hey!
Sorry I didn't reply sooner...I sort of forgot about this place after I finished all my exams!  !

I thought the exams went OK actually, could have been a lot worse!

LW4, I did the first 2 questions. Did the vodka spiking one as well! And the other one, which I can't remember. I remember thinking wtf to the one about the little cult group  !!! So I decided to leave that one.

LW5, I had been PRAYING for the CPS as that was one essay that I had learnt off by heart!! Was so relieved to turn the page and to see it as the first question! I also did the one on police complaints  I think that was by far my best paper.

LW6 was a tricky one. The first half was good, the second, not so. I did no revision on the jury and or the appeals process, so will have lost a lot of marks there! What are the rules regarding changing juries?! Are people allowed to do it if they don't like who is on the jury

Anyway, sounds like they went ok for you, which is good! I think I'm going to miss those weekly sessions...!

I know this topic is from 2006, but I'm doing WJEC Law A2 (through Distance Learning) and I'm revising for LW6 (which is tomorrow) now.

Anyone else doing it on here now?

hey,

I'm doing LW6 tomoro i js noticed your post. i'm actually dreading it. not to sure wat to go over really. i so hope a problem style question comes up because at least then it breaks it down for you abit! x

Reply 11

i do distance learning too, well i used to, got the LW6 exam tomorrow, which ive just started dreading.
WJEC does annoy me though, you have to pay for past papers and mark schemes, which is cheeky! also the answer booklets are in english and welsh, which just distracts me cos im tryin to figure out how t pronounce something while i should be writin down bloody answers! they should have two sets of papers. Also the text in the papers is tiny compared to anyone else. pft! maybe thats just me being picky.
Ive been through everything briefly and some of the more common stuff in mroe depth, i really really want a problem questions cos itll be broken down all nice and ready to answer. but sods law says it wont be :frown: . but the way i figure it with a biggy essay questions, is its 25 marks so in my plan i draw 5 mini mind maps, each related to the topic, one will always be What, and another Cases, maybe even a Reviews one if thats the kinda topic it is then the others just depending on what the topic is. Then ill put 5 things coming off the mind maps. This should get me 25 marks, then plus whatever i say in the intro and conclusion will make up for anythin thats rong. so the theory goes.
anywoo ive jus realised its only like 13 hours to the exam and ive still got to sleep! and learn all the stuff!
good luck to all those doin law tmoro.
out of interest has anyone else got Terrence as their distance learnin tutor??

Any clues about what might come up tomorow? i havnt been privelidged enough to see past papers cos they cost...not like AQA. after the last two exams my money is on police powers or CPS? iv also looked at juries and statutory interpretation...any last minute revision recomendations?

Nice guess. Just come out of it and it was police powers, CPS and juries for Option 2 LW6.

I didn't think it was too bad, well, it could have been worse anyway.
