Hi, I applied for Phys/Phil and Oxford this year but didn't get in. I have a place for NatSci at Durham which I think is great for the flexibility, and obviously within this I would be able to study Physics and Philosophy. However, I must admit that I am tempted to reapply to Oxford, just beacuse it seems to me that a purpose built Phys/Phil course would work so much better than just doing the two parallel within a NatSci degree. But my head tells me that going to Durham is a better idea, and I really love the place and know how good the Physics department is.
So, how do you think doing PhysPhil within Natsci would compare with doing the course at Oxford?
The durham NatSci course is very well respected in its own right, but obviously Oxford is more prestigous. However, you are not guaranteed to get in if you reapply and your not guaranteed to get a place at Durham NatSci either. It is a very competitive course here. My advice would be to study here but if you really have your heart set on oxford then spend a year working your arse off and go for it.

May I ask why? If anything doing the two subjects parallel within a NatSci degree gives you more options and more scope to modify to course to suit you.
Everyone, or everyone in my experience, has second thoughts about whether or not they should reapply to Oxford. Its your decision to make, not anyone elses. Just go with what feels right. I choose not to reapply to thats just me and I think i'll be really happy at Durham.
About versatility, Kentish man is indeed right... When you are second guessing stuff all the time, the NatSci course gives you a get out of jail free card... I do it, and I think it is wonderfully flexible, and as I am aware, very respected as a degree.
