Being called skinny should be offending

Im sick of people keep calling me skinny and 'as thin as a lat' (or something). I moved a big heavy wardrobe for my nan and my relatives think that my nan helped (shes not supposed too) cause im 'way too thin and not strong enough to move it on my own'. I offered to chocolate to my nan and she said 'no thanks im dieting', I said 'everyones dieting' and she said well we all want to lose weight apart from skinny minnies like you who can eat what they want'.
I don't know about others but I get offended when people call me skinny because thats just the way I am, we don't comment on peoples physique in general its seen as rude, no one ever comments on people who are large expecially too the face.

they're obviously just being kind and you are disturbingly fat...

Seriously - they're your family members - get over it.

Which would rather prefer, being called fat or being called thin? I know which one I'd prefer...

It's considered good to be thin so it's a compliment really and theyre jealous. If it offends you, speak up. But rest assured they don't think you look bad, they probably have no idea you're upset.

Was there really a need to use tha anonymous function for that?

Anyway, I think the threat starter was trying to say that society views it unacceptable to call someone fat, while it sees nothing wrong with calling someone skinny.

I'm in the same situation, I'm quite thin, not underweight but i could do with a bit more mass. I get called skinny and underestimated because i'm not all muscly but I've just learnt to live with it.
I gained a bit of weight training in the gym for basketball - you could try that.
But like someone has already said, i'd pick being thin over being overweight anyday.

ooh, i know exactly what you mean...

i used to be thicker before..( not fat, but i was thick comparing to what i am now, and i thought i was skinny, when i was perfect!!)and now for some personal reasons, i lost weight but not because i wanted to...but it just happened on itw own...

and now people that see me, they be like "oh my god, you lost madd weight, what happened?"!! i hate when they tell me that... and to be honest, i didnt even lose that much, just a little bit..

i remember, i used to say i was skinny back then...and i swear, if i could go back in time, i would never say that again.. because i think i was just perfect...
my guy friend's really thin! he even weighs less than me! any way we used one of those machines that tells your bmi and it said he needs to be at least 2stone heavier!

Anyways, there are a lot of girls who like "skinny guys" much better than muscly ones (I'm one of them:biggrin: ), so just get used to it and don't listen to what others say...
I'm really skinny and I have people saying that to me all the time! I guess it's because skinny people are not as common as curvy/fleshy people so they get attention wherever they go.

It's kind of a compliment to be told that you're skinny, but it's not when you have people asking you "Do you even eat?" That's like assuming all skinny people are anorexic or bulimic, whereas most of the time people are skinny due to their genetics/metabolism/whatever. That's just offensive.
