Do you think we should nationalise disease research organisations e.g. Cancer research etc and use tax payers money to help find cures for diseases?

No. There are massive profit incentives for this kind of research, so private firms will do a good job of t.

I think if you did this you'd likely destroy any chance of international cooperation

I think that would be impossible since many tax payers 'd not be ok with that and also this kinda big assocciations of curing crucial diseases already are able to get really big fund. But the idea of get some help from Goverment much more would be nice.

yes because massive profits in the healthcare industry dont lead to huge problems do they?

aids medications too expensive for africa
cancer drugs so expensive the NHS cant fund them
    etc etc

profit should not be included in the healthcare system including research AT ALL

Profit incentives from pharmaceuticals push them towards conditions that require long term medication. As such, most new (or rehashed) drugs released over the past couple of decades have been on chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease. Meanwhile we haven't had a new antibiotic developed since the 80s because the profit margins for a drug used only for 5 days at a time aren't attractive enough. Consequently we're left with a situation where we're fast running out of effective antibiotics.

Whilst I believe there is a huge place for tax funding of research, the actual research should be left to independent institutions such as Universities. As one prominent Cancer researcher said, if the government had run research for Polio, we would have the best Iron Lung possible, but no vaccine.

Government already funds research through councils - BBSRC, MRC etc. My PhD is part tax-payer funded (through a research council) and part charity org funded.

Having a mixture of public and private funding is good. The system as it is, is pretty good. The gov needs to give more although that's another topic.
