Do people prefer to read books or watch films? And are there any film adaptations of books that have left any of you disappointed?

Books, always much more detail and you really to get to know the character(s) more with a book

I enjoy films more. They portray a book that will take you many many hours to read in under 2 (usually).

I tend to read books over seeing the film adaptation and I know people who have been disappointed at how much films can leave out. LOTR, The Great Gatsby, World War Z and Harry Potter are a few that have been mentioned to me.

I personally prefer to read because (as stated above), there is more information, back stories etc. but if you've never read the books I don't think you'd really notice if something was removed.

I love both a lot, but when it comes down to it, I prefer a good book. I sit myself in a comfy spot, curl up, open my book, and suddenly everything else disappears, except for the universe within the book.

You get everything with a book, description of your surroundings, they play upon the reader's senses (describing sight, sound, taste, smell and touch), whereas in a film, you see someone else's imagination of the world in front of you (and as most readers have their versions of characters and scenes, it can be a little disappointing sometimes, but not usually, usually they work wonderfully well), and you only see and hear what's going on, instead of 'feeling' it.

Don't get me wrong, many film adaptations have done a good job, but as most always miss out or change certain things from the book, however small, it still affects the original fans a little. Not a lot, but a little, and we do notice it!

Not only that, we gain more insight to characters, they become more like real people, we feel like we know them, we grow to care about them and when things happen, we're more likely to be affected by it

So, yes, in short, I prefer books.

But if we're talking about comic-book hero films, I actually prefer some of them to their comics, despite their not sticking to the source material in some cases and driving me insane. But that's because there are so many different comic book arcs, to put it all into one film would be no mean feat!
