MRes Infection and Immunobiology

Hi
I just got my unconditional offer for an MRes in Infection and Immunobiology starting this September. Was just wondering if anyone else on here was starting this course as well? Would be nice to get to know a few people before starting the course.

I'm doing this course too! And we'll probably be graduating with the same specialisation considering I did my undergraduate in Virology here too!

I've never even had a 2 hour lecture :0 I may struggle with 3 hours, especially if it's immunology

Under my timetable on the myglasgow thingy. Yeah I'm excited you?

Yeah pretty excited. I haven't been able to register yet because i'm waiting for the alumni discount to be applied to my fees. Do they have lecture titles and things? Where did you study your undergraduate?

Just the module title no actual lecture titles. I studied at Leeds uni :-) I'd kill for an alumni discount but hey ho.

Ah cool, haha yeah it's pretty good to have but it's just a shame they aren't organised enough to apply it :P What kind of projects do you think you'd like to do?

I like negative sense RNA viruses so maybe schmallenberg or something like that. Not really sure TBH, I'm hoping they lay the titles/ideas out for us I'm crap at coming up with my own stuff. You?

I've worked with Hepatitis C for a work placement and Influenza for my honours project before and hated my project. I'd like to work on HIV and Hepatitis C. Ideally I think Ebola is very interesting but I highly doubt there are facilities for that in Glasgow.

I hate hep c and hiv. Love influenza and Ebola but Glasgow don't work on Ebola. They do a lot on hep c and hpv and hsv (urgh really hate these).

Haha well that's good then, one less person to fight for the projects I'd like :P They do a LOT on influenza here so you're in luck with that. I did an essay on ebola for honours and that turned out well and a poster on HIV and that also went well so I think those are my two favourites with Hepatitis C coming in third :P It's insane how much you forget about what you learn in your undergraduate though.

Yeah, I did my dissertation (lab one) on HRSV, it was meant to be on schmallenberg but the company we sent the DNA to to be cloned cocked up by optimising the nucleotide code and not telling us, so all my designed primers wouldn't anneal!!

Did my essay on Schmallenberg virus.

That's interesting. Hope it went well  I'm really hoping to get registered on Monday and get some more information. Excited for the essay we're going to write as well.

It definitely went well I got a 1st

Yeah the essay we write they give us a list of titles and we have to pick our top 3 choices and we get given one of them.

We only have 1 exam, and we can't really revise for it as they give us a journal article and we have to answer 6 short answer questions on it (a lot harder than it actually sounds if you haven't done an exam like this before)

Congratulations! I suck so much at exams but I think that sounds manageable if that's all we have to do. I am better at things like that. Have you been sent any course information by the uni? I just feel out of the loop because I have not been able to register yet.
