I thought it was only for girls but I'm a guy and when I check my insurance quotes on comparison websites, Diamond comes as the cheapest. In anyone here with Diamond insurance?

    EDIT BY COMMUNITY TEAM

ALWAYS do a car insurance quote comparison on:
    confused.com
    gocompare.com
    www.moneysupermarket.com
and more to check you have the cheapest deal possible

I know Sheila's Wheels isn't just for girls so I'd imagine Diamond would be the same

Its not only for girls, if it was, it would be a sexist policy and breaking the law............they just do that to attract a certain market.
Theres even a company called "drive like a girl" which is really insurethebox, but they accept guys as well.

I believe that before the law change (preventing companies from charging different prices based on gender), then they were fairly cheap for girls, and would insure guys but at much, much higher prices (as I don't think they could just point-blank not insure guys, so they out-priced guys instead).

Now, as they can't charge differently for guys or girls, then anyone can get a quote from them.

It is for guys as well - they actually gave me the cheapest quote when I renewed! Bell matched it and away I went

    Why wouldnt they?

They are not a specialist young driver insurer.

Bear in mind that they are part of the EUI group which include Elephant, Bell and Admiral. You might get cheaper insurance under one of their other brands.

Elephant insurance is the cheapest for me out of the four.

I've found that group generally seems to offer the cheapest insurance - I'm with diamond because they gave me the cheapest quote (it was weird, they gave me a renewal of £831 - up from £550 and so I searched around and admiral or elephant offered me £650 and then just transferred me back through to diamond as my current insurer and they offered £590..so odd) I knew it was going to go up cos I had a little bump!

Cheapest insurance always comes from the independent brokers rather than mainstream insurance companies.

So avoid EUI, Direct Line, Axa, etc.

Sky Insurance, Sureterm, Adrian Flux, Footman James, the small brokers at the back of magazines are always much, much cheaper.

Not for me they werent. Majority of the brokers you have listed quoted close to double.

I dont think there is hard and fast rule. It varies from person to person

Cheapest insurance so far I've found for a younger driver is none other than Tesco. This is especially true if the car in question isn't the usual banger.

I'm a 24 year old bloke insured through diamond on a 1.4 polo sport 100ps (insurance often higher because it's a rarer car and therefore harder to replace like for like) and I pay £350. So not bad. The prices you get quoted are complete nonsense half the time. If you tell them you've been quoted lower they can always add on discounts - always either 'new customer discount' or 'valued customer discount' or some derivative!
