Alcohol And Shmoking!

Does this annoy anyone or is it just me..? Right doesn't it seem that in todays young society, people are perfectly happy to get drunk and off their faces and then you'll be out/at a party/whatever and some pissed 14year old will come up to you and say OMG YOUR SMOKING YOUR GONNA DIE. It's like well drinking every week is no better than smoking. It just annoys me so much, that loads of people are SO anti smoking BUT they think drinking loads is fine. I mean what is up with that? Please rant with me, I'm posting this as anoynomous because most ppl on this site are ******* and won't understand this but if you're out there reply!!

Smoking affects people that don't smoke, i hate walking in the high street when people are smoking or anywhere really.

that's why i walk on the road so i'm not near people who smoke.

Smoking is probably worse than alcohol, it's effects are more apparent than alcohol, and also much quicker. To top that, very few of it's effects are reversible. Alcohol causes cirrhosis of the liver, yes, but this take a while, and requires regular (ie. several times weekly) binge drinking. The liver has the ability to regenerate itself, and thus the effects may, to some extent, be reversible. Alcohol results in a hell of a lot less fatalities as well. Saying that, both are both detrimental to health.

That's what I like about drunk drivers- they don't affect anyone else.

The difference is when you are drinking you are not directly affecting anyone around you unless you get violent and mouthy when u get drunk. when you are smoking other people have to inhale your smoke and it makes clothes smell aswel. Thats why most people complain about people that smoke more than those who drink

Drinking itself is not as toxic to the body as smoking. Yes you will get damage to your body if you drink but not to the same extent. Personally I don't drink or smoke but I have much more of a problem with people who smoke around me I don't have a problem with the smoking in their own homes because it is their choice if they want to risk lung cancer however I would rather not have it inflicted on me. If someone is drinking they are risking the problems associated with that but it doesn't effect me hence i have less of a problem with drinking.

yes they effect you in the ways that you are listing however you can also be knocked over my a non-drunk driver, or shouted at by a non-drunk person. However you can't get liver disease from someone who is drinking you can get lung cancer from being exposed to ciggerette smoke.

what a load of crap offcourse drink drivers affect people
i wasnt even talking about drink driving what are you arguing with me about, i was saying smoking affects others, are you saying smoking doesnt affect others then you are ignorant.
if you smoke in public ut's bad for others. not sure why you mentioned drink driving, i absolutley hate drink driving aswell. and i hate people smoking in public giving helpless people cancer through you.

I agree entirely with the OP. The arguement that it doesn't effect anyone else and therefore it is acceptable is pathetic, snorting cocaine doesn't effect anyone else does it? yet it's frowned upon and is banned. Anyone that drinks and is for the prohibition of other recreational drugs is a hypocrite

Reply 12

We're all hypocrits, now lets drink.
No, I do know what you're talking about, each to their own poison though. I can imagine it must be a pain in the arse to be lectured by binge drinkers on the effects of smoking, personally I think you should be left to read the label whilst I drink my whiskey.

I think that this person was being sarcastic in the sense that drinking can affect others directly as smoking can.

Personally I'd rather inhale someone's smoke all night than get beaten up in a gutter or ran over and left for dead by some drunk.

yeah, though drink driving is done by an ignorant person but there are people who drink alcohol that wouldnt go drive a car.

i think people who smoke need to know how non smokers feel when they walk around the streets and someone is smoking.

especially on buses like i pay £9 a week to inhale smoke yet i tell the driver and they do nothing.

i like to go to the pub with my friends, play a few games and have a few drinks. this harms no one but me (unless you count the dented pride of some of the men i beat when rather tipsy). however if im in a public place and the woman next to me is chainsmoking her way through a packet of fags that is harming my health and everyone else around. not only that but when i get home i will stink of smoke.

I'm confused, i dont drink but why would drink cause someone to beat you up, surely it's more the fact that it's a bad person. if you mean drinking causes us all to drink drive and kill people then i'd be worried.

Good Drinkers=ones who aren't aggressive or bad people
Good Smokers=ones who don't smoke around non smokers

simple as that.

but im not saying smokers that smoke in public are bad people because they just might not be thinking about the affects on other people that's all.

i'm sure if the caring smokers knew what affect they had on people was, then they would try not to do it near people.

same with drinkers, the caring ones won't do anything to injure people but the careless ones will do things that injure people.

i hate it when your waiting for a train and some person decides to stand next to you and light one up and then the wind blows all their smoke into you face. Some old woman did that the other day and the whole bench suddenly became free
