Shaving doesnt work !

I know there have been several threads about shaving with/against the grain etc, but I dont seem to be able to get a good shave.

If I shave down my face, the razor literally doesnt remove anything leaving me the only option to shave against the grain. Shaving against the grain does remove all the hair and give a good shave, but causes razor burn, spots and ingrowing hairs.

Is it my technique that is wrong, or am I using the wrong razor (mach3 or wilkinson sword quattro) ?

I am a 25 yr old male and have never been able to get a proper shave.... am I the only one with this problem or are there others around ?????

Any tips ?

Everyone should just stop shaving and go natural. Would save so much on razors.

I think it might be technique as much as anything. When I switched from an electric razor to a mach 3, I also found that shaving against the grain was the only way to get a decent shave, but left a shaving rash at my cheekbones. At first I was doing a quick shave down, and then exerting quite a bit of pressure / stretching skin on the way up against the grain. A better way I've found is to shave with reasonable pressure twice down and then do a light shave up, once, against the grain. You may want to reapply a little shaving foam if it sticks/drags. This I've found to be much better. Maybe not quite as smooth, but close and without ingrowing hairs etc.

However, I believe people with curly hair have more of a tendancy for ingrowing hairs. If that's the case for you, well you'll perhaps just have to live with a little stubble!

I reccommend getting some of this:

and also, you know, using aftershave after you shave...

maybe u should push down harder?

or change ur razor?
or like everyone says grow a beard, mainly a sex pest
Get the Mach 3 and shave with the grain, and then shave sideways... don't shave against the grain.
Sideways?! What fiendish devilry is this?
Use Mach 3 - also try the new oen with batteries. They are good.

Use some preoper shaving gel. If that doesnt work just use water so you can see whats going wrong

Try changing the shape of you face (i.e on your cheeks try puffing them out like a ball so its curved when you are shaving)

Shave downwards.

If the Mach 3 doesnt work try getting one of those old school razors

I use a mach three and found shaving sideways works well. I found that using a decent moisturising foam (like Loréal men care or whatever it's called, it's in a grey can) works wonders, as well as Loréal Pur et Matt (don't know what it is called in the UK sorry) to miostuise immediately after shaving.

try waxing!
Screw the waxing.

And ignore all the people who're telling you to grow a beard. A beard will attract women, but only short-term. In the long term, the female will expect you to go down on her and believe me, it's nothing exciting to be getting oral from a guy whose cheeks feel like sandpaper, or worse, like a hedgehog.

:suith:
Cut the number of blades you are using down to two. I use two bladed ones and although I go through blades like they are going out of fashion, I never get razor burn or ingrowing hairs. Mach3s and Quattros cut so close to the skin that they destroy it.
OP: I know where you're coming from with this.

A few things to do:

1. Prep your face carefully every time - I know it's a hassle, but a quick wash with hot water will make things go smoother.

2. Get what you can off by shaving with the grain.

3. Shave sideways; it gets off most of the hair without being quite as tough on the skin as shaving against the grain.

4. Shave against the grain only in small localised areas where the hair is most likely to stay put if you don't.

5. Re-wash and moisturise and you should be fine. Also, it seems to be the case that your skin gets used to the abuse after a while and will probably just stop being quite as sore after a bit!

Oh and use fresh blades as often as possible. They're bloody expensive though, so the temptation is to keep shaving with the same one for weeks and weeks on end.

yeah i'm the same, can never seem to get a properly smooth shave. Under the chin is the worst bit - even with fresh blades (mach 3), copious hot water, decent gel etc i don't stand a chance going with the grain. Such a pain in the ass.

I know they're not nearly as good as using a razor, but have you tried using electric shavers?
