Building society number: Is Halifax a bank or a building society?

Filling in bank details for student finance and its asking for a building society number.

I'm not sure what a building society number is or whee to find it. However, I've read that if you are with a bank and not a building society you can leave this section out.

So, I've been researching if Halifax is a bank or a building society? But I can't seem to find a certain answer!

If anyone is with Halifax and has filled in a student finance, did you leave this section blank or did you fill it in? If so, where do you find the number?

The best way forward would be to contact your banking provider and request your roll number if you have one.
