Went to the doctor but she didn't say much - just gave me some antibacterial stuff to stick up there!

Short-term fix

I get them very often, why is this? Has anyone here discovered any links? Is it to do with the heat sometimes

Stop pickin yer nose!

Sounds a little dubious - but my friend claimed he always got them before thunderstorms because the atmospheric pressure was lower.... don't think this suggests a preventative though!!

Yeah, I used to get them a lot, and it was usually when it was hot. Also, some wise advise that's helped me through some hard times by Chief Constable Wiggum:

Remember, Ralphy, if your nose starts bleeding, you're picking it too much! ...Or not enough."

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I was told when you're hot the blood vessels in your nose swells and burst? Something along them lines, so my advice, keep hydrated and cool

''The other main cause is dryness of the inside of the nose. A dry climate or heated indoor air irritates and dries out nasal membranes, causing crusts that may itch and then bleed when picked.

Other causes of nosebleeds are colds, high altitude, allergies and medications.

Nosebleeds can also result from a calcium deficiency. ''

Hope that helps a bit...

I get nose bleeds really easy. You could quite literally "tab" my nose (as in touch) and it would bleed. I ended up having my nose "frozen" (this was about 10 years ago now).

Usually I get them because of weather changes (such as it's so damn hot right now... got one the other day :frown:).

Yeah I get spontanetous nosebleeds. I can just be walking down the road when I feel this drip, think "thats odd I don't have a cold" and then look down and see a nice red splodge on my tshirt. But yeah weather changes, when I do get a cold/hayfever and my nose is irritated. Knocks obviously.

It doesn't bother me though and will ususally clear up in a minute or two.

I used to get them a lot. Especially in Summer/Winter when temperatures change.

What solved it for me was the doctor sticking a "match"-like thing up my nose which ... dunno, somehow fused the blood vessel in my nose. I'm guessing the scar tissue makes bleeding harder. Anyway, go to the doctor if its a problem and they'll do that for you. It's not painful but you can't blow your nose for like 2 days cos otherwise you'll blow the "healing" clot out.

Not a good explaination, haha. Sorry. I'm not a doctor. but you get the general idea.

I'm in a very similair position and a good few years back I had the doctor do something by sticking something up my nose (can't remember too clearly) and that seemed to put pay to them for a while, but I'm still very susceptible to them when the seasons change and when the humidity is low. One solution I've found that helps is to put vaseline inside my nose, but it does feel quite weird. Better than random nosebleeds, though, I guess.

i think sometimes it happens if you eat fish a lot. my brother has nose bleeds as such but caused by eating fish (too much) doctor said it was b*llocks but there may be a link. and heat does have an affect but the most logical one is that you pick your nose waaay to much.

yeah i get them alot, a while ago i went to the doctors about it and she gave me flixonase, it was a steriodal spray and it worked so well! i dont know if u can buy it over the counter but if u can i would suggest it.
hope that helps. (also i find if i take an antihstamine everyday it helps my nose to stay clear and decreases nosebleeds)

i've never had a nose bleed.

i had a friend who used to get them all the time though, bless him.

Reply 14

I think the warm weather makes them more likely to occur!!

Reply 15

Its usually a case of high blood pressure, start exercising

Im on about 2 a day. You get used to it. Just keep some tissues in your pocket.

Reply 17

While high blood pressure can cause nose bleeds I hardly think it is indicative.

Actually, has anyone here ever seen the League of Gentlemen...

You havn't been eating the "special stuff" have you?

you can have a small operation on your nose to prevent it happening quite so much. i had it done when i was small and it helped, still have nose bleeds every now and again though
