Honorary Cambridge Overseas Trust Scholar - what?!

Does anyone happen to know what an 'Honorary Cambridge Overseas Trust Scholar' (whew, that's a mouthful!) is?

I wasn't really paying attention when I submitted by Bursars form many moons ago. Then I got this letter which threw long phrases at me (such as the one mentioned above). Anyone have annnny idea what this is about?

I received a bursary from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. It didn't have the word ''honorary'' or ''scholar'' attached, but I know how much money they're giving me.

Did you get a booklet called ''Regulations for Scholars and Bursars''?

I've read an article about that on a German webpage a couple of days ago. If you understand German, I could post the link here.

It's an outstanding postgrad from abroad who gets a scholarship to do research at Cambridge.

heh they gave me a silly amount of money which was symbolic rather than a help
but they did award me the status "honorary cambridge european trust scholar"
and i have no idea what that really means either...

Ah so maybe I'm wrong and it also refers to undergrads...

well i looked up the letter and it says this:
"This honorary status will also entitle you to be elected a Fellow of the Cambridge European Society which the Trustees of the Cambridge European Trust have set up under the patronage of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. The Cambridge European Society hopes to bring together in one association all the Trust's scholars so that they may achieve a corporate identity and unity of purpose which is one of the aims of the Cambridge European Trust. The Trustees believe that the outstanding scholars who are Fellow of the Society will make it a force for good, not only in their own countries, but throughout the European Union and a focus of continuing contact with Cambridge"
so this is the confusing part with lots of important sounding names that i sort of ignored :P

I don't think they're giving me any money as I sent in a financial guarantee... poo-ey.
