I'm completely obsessed with all soaps. Neighbours, then doctors, then either Monk, or Murder She Wrote, or something similar, Countdown then Deal or no Deal... There's so many things to watch, and then I feel lazy watching them all (Plus it uses up an entire afternoon!) But how people live without tv I do not know. Afternoon lectures suck because they eat up so much good daytime tv!!

Monk is the best!! tht guy makes me laugh sooo much!!

Yea gettin back to topic rite, i was reading the brochure they send for choosing accomodation rite and it said tht bateson has a laundry and a tv lounge. jus wanna kno wht's tht like?
ooo same for maggie rule minus the tv lounge...M.R, James Watson and Trafalgar has to share Batesons one don't they? So is Batesons TV lounge like huuuuuge??
Reply 63
It's not bad, not huggggge though. To be honest though, I don't know of anyone that went to Bateson to use the TV Lounge, most people either have one in their rooms or some flats have one in the kitchen that they all share, or share your flatmates, go watch TV in their room, or even other flats if you want.

yeh, i have absolutely no clue where the tv lounge is! and no one i know ever went to it...

meh..

none in our group ever went to the tv room cos we had a good setup in our flats....

Loads of people used the TV lounges at Rees Hall. They were a godsend, especially when there was a big football match and you couldn't be bothered to go to the pub.

And they were great for poker/drinking games/ann summers type parties (though with the latter people would float in and quickly leave...was amusing)
I know the burrel ones were used quite often last year as well.

Might have something to do with not having a kitchen for a flat (though burrel has kitchens, with a freezer and cooker!)

i see, intresting indeed. i read it and was like woah it must be huge if all the other halls use it. See thats what i wanted to do, get my own t.v., but then thought if they have a tv room why waste money. I kno this seems like a silly question but do they have digital or is it terrestial like jus 5 channels?

But yea im not really bothered whether they dont or do but yea. I noticed tht portsmouth know how to market themselves well, i noticed tht wen i went for the open day very 'polished' .

this forum is soo good, without this i would have entered being a bit unaware of stuff. But yea jus wanna say people thank u for all the comments. getting emotional here **sniff sniff** lol

P.S. whts TSR?
TSR = The Student Room, silly sausage
I found in my 3 yrs at pompey that ur not able to get channel 5 without anyform of digital/cable, but the other four channels are fine.

get a lovely lovely freeview box! they work in halls great too, cause there's aerial sockets in the walls...

no such luck for student houses though, very unlikely to get a roof-aerial in your room :frown: although, i am making my dad put one up for me next year..

No channel 5 is very very difficult. Miss out on soo much CSI. Thankfully my flatmates have freeview boxes, and ive been given one for next year :-)

Also, I lived in Trafalgar this year, and I didn't once use the TV room, and don't have a clue where it is... But in the other halls just the general "common room" type places seem to be where everyone is, rather than the kitchens in the flats.

That was beautiful.

At Rees we had freeview (although only on one of the TVs, I think). So I'd imagine it would be the same for the other halls.

Although Rees is, y'know, the best... so we probably get certain perks for living there.

I'd have been well and truly screwed without this forum. Although there seemed to be more people using it this time last year. Where have they all gone?

oh yea TSR is the student room wht an idiot am i. i thought it was like some secret club that only special people are allowed to join. Trust me people im not always this stupid, muffin can vouch for me hehehe

I found the Freeview sometimes wasn't in the room when I went to watch it. Though that could have just been my ignorance.
Not getting channel 5 was quite annoying at first. Now I'm home I forget it exists and don't bother looking whats on it.

I was in bateson last year. Has its advantages and disadvantages though. on the bad side the rooms were small, 2 metres by 3 metres and were not plastered so you get painted breeze block walls, which we all found depressing. Also having to share the toilet and shower was a down side. Especially if you all have lectures around the same time. The other problem we found was that Bateson is the only halls with no T.V arial sockets so we resorted to hanging an amplified arial out the window which proved risky in the rain. For that reason we never watched much TV (anyway most things we watched were DVDs on computers and if you really need to watch a programme (Lost and Top Gear were common favourites for us) you can always download them. We never really used the T.V lounge much. Useful when doing your laundry though. There was a 28 inch plasma on the wall with a DVD player but only the four basic channels. The advantages of Bateson is having the shared toilet means the cleaners come to clean it for you! Also a small room means less mess to make and so less to clean. If you're on the top floor of B,C,D or E blocks you also get access to the loft. Useful for storage we found. Anyways, Bateson was an experience i shall never forget but glad to be out of there.

I was in Bateson last year. A Block was definitely the 'party block' out of them all. Probably because it's the biggest. A lot of the people I knew there were very chavvy. I know quite a few people hung out in the tv room. I did sometimes. But people would go hang out there for hours and drink and eat junk. People would throw up in the lift as well too. And I've lost count of the amount of fire alarms Bateson had. Once there was 2 or 3 in a night. Around 4am. That wasn't fun!! The shower in our flat was extremely powerful which was brilliant. Most parties and 'gatherings' took place in the kitchen or in the largest bedroom. Although Bateson resembles a prison, it's a pretty good place to be because you're in the centre of everything. It is sometimes annoying when you get a parcel, that you have to go to the post office to collect whereas in other halls you can just pick it up from the reception bit but hey.

1. i was in james watson and i always had to go to the post office to pick up parcels, even if they were a teensy bit fatter than a regular envelope and could easily have fitted through the post boxes..

2. wasn't bateson an actual prison, back in the day..?

I'm in A block (hopefully) next year!! i love the way you've described it lol. Apparently there arent any t.v. sockets in the rooms?

Thanks for the response, much appreciated
