Who is an ODP: An ODP secures a safe transit of patients from the ward to the theatre, through to recovery and back to the ward untill the patents are discharged. The act as scrub nurses as well and surgery cannot begin without the presence of an ODP.

No it not acting like a nurse it's a theatre practitioner role. And has its professional status with a governing body- HCPC.
Odp is a role mainly in theatre which cover 3 main areas : anaesthestic care, surgical care and post operative care. They work with surgeons, theatre support workers, anaesthetists and nurses. Odp duties are the same role as a nurse who works in perioperative environment regardless if it's in surgical or anaesthetics or post operative care. the only difference is that an Odp studies and qualifies in all areas and can cross over when it suits them. Whereas a nurse can only specialise in one section anaesthetic, surgical or post operative. Odp course is good idea if you know operating theatres is the area you want to specialise in.
