Personal story:

m8 told me to squeze....i did...then it led to picking......i mite sound cocky....but in terms of features i am handsome...but my picking has left me many many with scars.
Take my advise DONT SQUEAZE/PICK/TOUCH.....u WILL REGRET IT later.

I think it depends on the 'type' of the spot.

The little pimple ones, I pick because it makes them go away faster. They only bleed slightly (some of the time, not at all) & are gone within a couple of days.

The horrible bigger ones (which, thank god, I don't get often), I would leave as I would imagine they would scar pretty bad.

So yeah, depends on the spot. Ewww!

Squeezing spreads the bacteria from the spots around your face so can cause a few brothers and sisters of the spot to strangely emerge.
However I do agree with the shaving comment. Razors really are the death knell of spots, because if you run a blade over an area of skin with a spot in it the head of the razor which is meant to compress the skin to give you a clean shave ends up pulling the spot head right in the path of the blade and you can't help but slice the top off and the spot will bleed. You normally end up with a bit of burning for a few minutes, then a scab, but a day or so later and the spot has died down a lot.

I'm sure its not particularly medically advisable but I doubt that many spots can survive long after being run over by a Gilette Mach 3. I had one on the side of my face yesterday and I decided to go against the grain with a Mach 3. It is now red and flat where it was pink and about 2mm poking out of my skin before,

if you pick/squeeze you will a. get more spots and b. get scars. so don't even though you have a bit white one that just STRAINSS the surface of your skin.

Reply 8

leave em. They tend to look less ugly while there going, better than red scabs and marks. Make sure you treat them with something antibatical, will help them go. And once there gone you wont have any scars, because you didnt pick them til they bled.

You can squeeze, but not with your nails, you need a metal spot squeezer which is like a little stick with a small circle of metal at the top.

If you use them correctly they do not scar, they are used for professional facials at some places.

It is best if you open the pores a bit first with steam from having a hot bath and sweating (or a sauna/steamroom, but that is not practical for most people), then wash your skin with hot/warm water and a face scrub.

Do not try and squeeze red spots or any kind large lumpy spots with no proper head. You can only squeeze whiteheads and blackheads, you place the circle around them and slowly press down until the white stuff pops out, do not continue after that and you should not see any blood. You can feel a sort of pop and it all should come out in one go, after that, even if you think there is more gunk leave it alone for that day.

You need to keep the spot squeezer very clean, wash it with hot water between each squeeze during use and then disinfect it before and after each session with alcohol or something similar. Wash your face again afterwards with a moisturising face wash.

If you can be this disciplined about it is ok to squeeze, and can even be beneficial. The reason that the general advice to young people is always don’t squeeze is that most young people would not do all this properly and squeezing with dirty fingernails etc or even with a spot squeezer that you do not keep properly clean can cause scars sometimes and more often spread spots.

Depends.

If its a whacking great whitehead spot and it is full of stuff and you can see that, then pop it with a sterilised needle and put a hot compress on it to draw the stuff out, and put some pimple cream on it. Don't squeeze. If anything, do the opposite of squeezing and stretch the skin around the pimple, if there is anything in there it will pop out. Don't force it back in.

It it is a blackhead, then get the little contraption pendragon is referring to (BodyShop) and after having a facial steam (hot water in a basin, with towel over head for about ten minutes) or after a shower use the tool. Don't force it.

I woke up with a whitehead this morning (you still get pimples at 25, kids!) and did that, and it's already going. Hurrah!

If you're going to, then disinfect! Yay for bacteriacidal things! Evil little buggers.

Reply 13

If you squeeze them they will come back and probably leave a scar. Don't touch them!! Bacteria will invade

Reply 14

Is there anyway to get rid of scars or make them less obvious? Im sure someone said in another thread (ages and ages ago) that you can get something :s-smilie:

You can get scar reduction patches at boots, but you need to use them while the scar is still red/pink, once it goes white it is harder to get rid of.

 i've always squeezed, and i have no scars at all.

Reply 17

Im always tempted to squeeze...once they have gone white I tend to squeeze them - very satisfying  and ive never got scars...

Reply 18

Yep, tis very satisfying! I think a good rule though, is that you shouldn't have to squeeze hard, or put excessive pressure on. If you just press gently, to see if they pop, you shouldn't do your skin any long-term damage.
That's for blackheads by the way. Whiteheads/nasty red infected ones, are best left well alone, and should go down by themselves. The puss is the white blood cells fighting off the infection. If you squeeze them, you empty all that out, but you're quite likely to leave a little bit of bacteria in the pore, so the spot will flare up again.

you beat me too it, great minds.... fools.....

yeah personally i would squeeze unless there are loads of spots.

you need to wait until spots are ripe before you sqeeze as well
