I'd like to join. I'm somewhere between 1 and 3, I'm currently going for the slicked back look, at the back its reaching about the base of my neck.

Sometimes my hair does annoy me, but I love it usually

Lol, I don't know, it just seems characterful.

I've been growing on and off since January 2004. Last time I got it cut was about a month ago.

No, you don;'t need to thin your hair. That will just give it more layers and make it harder to tie it all back. I have thick hair too.

Hair on average grows at 0.5 inches per month. So work out from that. Mine grows faster at 0.75 inches per month..

I'd say about 20 months to get below your shoulders. (from a crew cut)

started growing 3 months ago at 1/2 inch

    now 4 inches

3.5/3 = 1.16 inches per month = feckin fast growing hair = less time with $hit hair

Congratulations. You've been liberated from split ends. Now make sure you use plenty of conditioner on the ends of your hair and brush gently, that should minimise the recurrence of dryness and split ends whilst prolonging the softness of the ends of your hair.
