I wouldn't call it a working class **** hole. Obviously it doesn't have the nightlife of a city like Manchester or Leeds because its smaller but a night out is what YOU make of it in the end. And actually the tramps are pretty friendly, you won't get mugged.

No.

I moved to Lincoln last year from Cambridge, and you'd be surprised how similar they are (considering the Cambridge 'elite' reputation). Sure, I would hazard a guess it's primarily working class, you're more likely to socialise with other students anyway, and the nightlife is good for a town of it's size, but as said above is not comparable to big city uni's.

Best thing to do is have a look around the town, if night life is important to you then maybe book into a hotel and try it for yourself.

Oh, and the shops are fine!

The capital of hidden nightlife in the UK. Gonna be mad.

I've lived in Lincoln for 20 years until moving to London for uni and I can honestly say it is not a **** hole at all.

Sure it has a couple of rough areas on the outskirts like every city but even that isn't too bad.

The uphill bailgate area of the city is extremely nice with steep hill being named best street in the UK last year. The nightlife isn't like Manchester and London as previously said but its definitely worth going out in. The student nights at the engine shed are good and more and more good live acts have been playing. Zane Lowe does a few student nights in the year which are definitely worth going to and Moda is a really good night that rivals big city events. Calvin Harris and Sub focus have done nights which were insane.

Generally there you notice more students than regular residents so it is what you make it. The university campus is better than most too.

With places like hull, grimsby, scunthorpe, mansfield, boston and gainsborough nearby Lincoln is 5 star luxury compared to those places. Enjoy!

Haha, quite.

It's not a ****hole at all OP. The uphill area is really nice, we have decent shops and you can definitely have a great night out here, there are some great bars and the like (would especially reccommend The Appletree on the High St for a good cocktail). Overall it's good fun, especially considering it's a relatively small city.

As someone who lives in Gainsborough I can verify this statement. Lincoln is a lovely place and a lot safer than most cities
