Can I get a clearing offer if my insurance gives me an offer? Watch

Hi, I'm currently wondering whether or not I should go through clearing tomorrow. I am applying for Electronic Engineering (with a year in industry) at Nottingham as my first choice and Kent as my insurance. The grade requirements are ABB and BBB respectively. I'm very worried about my maths grade, as I may very well have got a high C instead of the required B.

I would be very happy to go to either of them, however I have just discovered that loughborough has some electronic engineering places available in clearing and only want BBC. If I get BBC or BBB and Nottingham reject but Kent accept, would it be a wise choice to go through clearing and go for Loughborough?

Loughborough seems to do very well in the charts and was initially offering ABB - I visited and was very impressed, and almost put it down as my first choice. Can I see if I can get a place in Loughborough without the fear of losing my place at Kent too if Loughborough don't accept?

What would you do in my situation?

You cannot enter clearing when you hold an offer, I'm afraid. You will have to ask your insurance to reject you before you can enter clearing and that can take some time. (In extreme cases it has been a week.) By then, the clearing spaces will have reduced dramatically.

No. You can only go into clearing and get a place at Loughborough if you get Kent to release you from your offer there. This will take a few hours to a few days, so you are risking the places at Loughborough already filling. In your situation I would only consider clearing if I was 100% sure I didn't want to go to kent, and didn't mind taking a gap year next year if clearing didn't work out.

Thanks - in that case, I'll only do it if I don't get the offers.

    I think that's wise.

So are they unlikely to give me a firm offer over the phone before I 'officially' enter clearing, which I could use?
