# I have an average of 52.58 in my 2nd year, will i be able to graduate with a 2:1? Watch

1. I study Criminology at Swansea University
2. It depends how your final grade is calculated - do you know the relative weightings of your second and third years in your final degree? Your uni should provide that information. Whichever way it's calculated, you would need to be getting very high 2:1s/1sts in your final year to bring your average up high enough to get a 2:1 overall.
3. Band 3: Best marks achieved in 80 credits pursued at Level 3, given a weighting of 3
Band 2: Level 3 marks from the remaining 40 credits pursued and the best marks achieved in 40 credits pursued at Level 2, given a weighting of 2
Band 1: Marks achieved in remaining Level 2 credits pursued, with a weighting of 1

Example of a Nursing student (colour coded to link in with the Band allocation as above):

Level 2 modules
SHN252 – 40cr – 47%
SHN253 – 40cr – 45%
SHN254 – 40cr – 62%

Level 3 modules
SHN3017 – 40cr – 56%
SHN3018 – 40cr – 45%
SHN3019 – 40cr – 47%

The calculation is then (56 + 56 + 56 + 47 + 47 + 47 + 45 + 45 + 62 + 62 + 47 + 45)/12 = 51.25% which is a 2(ii) classification
[12 being the no. of module marks above]

This is how my University works out degree class!

5. Its really good, totally recommend it! You have so much choice for extra modules from decriminalization of sex to drugs, crime and alcohol! Very interesting!
