I'm currently backing up my files and it is going to take so long that I will have to leave it running when I go to sleep. Is that the right thing to do? I don't normally do it however I leave my computer running the majority of the day. I have a desktop computer not a laptop.

Won't do any harm. I wouldn't do it but that's simply because the light would creep me out if I woke up:L

I always leave my laptop on overnight. I've been told not to but I'm too impatient to turn it on every time.

Should be fine, especially as a one off. The sound and light coming from it might keep you awake though

I hardly ever turn mine off, it does all its scheduled maintenance stuff and updating overnight.

Apparently the light that goes on and off on a MacBook mimics the human pattern of breathing when asleep - it's supposed to be 'soothing'...if a computer can be soothing...

I think that is OK, if it's necessary you can leave your computer or laptop overnight.

Well you could, though I would say it depends on the device, I would be very careful when doing it with a laptop and make sure the ventilation points aren't blocked. Whereas my desktop would be fine, as its got really good cooling system.

PC is fine to leave on overnight, I do that whenever downloading large files. I prefer to turn it off though purely because the fan is annoying and the power light is creepy.

I've left mine on continually for the last few days (probably over 100 hours) and have had no problems at all.
