It's not worth contacting unis until you have your results. If you want to go through Clearing you need to ask to be released from the uni you got into. Unfortunately this can take time and it means you lose you place. There is a risk you won't get a place in Clearing.

If you go into Clearing then you lose your original place.

Then there is the risk you don't find an alternative, in which case you would have to take a gap year (although this is not necessarily a bad thing).

If you go into Clearing, then your offer from Hallam is null and void. This means that if you don't get a place in Clearing then you don't have a place at all - you can't hold onto your Hallam offer AND go into Clearing.

    Hi,

Just to back up what Zottula has said - there is always the risk of not getting a place through clearing, and it may be that you end up taking a gap year instead if you decide to be released from your insurance choice.

However, taking a gap year may be a better option than committing to a university that you're not convinced you want to go to. Are you sure you no longer want to go to your insurance choice?

Wait until you have your results - then you can have a look at what Clearing places are available to you.

    Hopefully that helps,
    Emma

You should collect your results first because the clearing unis will not be able to speak to you until you get them.

    Hi Emma,

Just read your post, from what im thinking at the moment is to still go with sheffield hallam. Although my father isnt exactly happy with me going there, yet alone going on a gap year! Im going to school in 1/2 hour to collect the brown envelope.. hopefully i will be closer to the ABB or AAC which Reading wanted..

    Thanks

    Henry
