I found out I was anaemic around 4 months ago (iron deficiency) and was prescribed iron tablets - 3 a day for 3 months. I was just curious and wondering if anyone knows why you're usually only prescribed a 3 month dosage? Will my iron levels not drop again now that I've stopped taking them?

It depends why it is you are iron deficient. If you are low in Iron because you have a poor diet etc then sometimes taking an iron supplement alongside improving your diet then you might not need them long term. Giving a three month supply also means that you have to go back to talk to the doctor again and they will probably recheck your bloods at the time to ensure that things are improving.

Usually they'll give you another blood test after three months because if iron levels gets too high you can suffer iron poisoning. After the blood test they will decide what your future dosage will be. I am on the perm but still have blood tests every six months
