The Student Room Group

Bedsit generally stands for bed-sitting room so you will most probably have all your essentials in one room, you may even have a kitchenette? It varies from place to place. Bathroom...I'm sure they can't say that without it having a bath in it - and possibly a shower but it isn't a definate if you have a bath, whereas an en-suite most of the time in regards to student accommodation only has a shower (obviously with toilet and sink).

I think you will be more enclosed on your own in a bedsit because depending on if it has a kitchenette or not, you will only be leaving to go somewhere, not much opportunity for meeting people. I would go for single room with en-suite personally. But it is an individual choice.

I don't know if you are first year or what but I have heard Sheavyn tends to be more for older students but there are some first years there.

I would get in touch with the accommodation and find out first hand and then you know instead of my silly guess work

Sheavyn is actually mostly for first-years. The bedsits are for post-grads though, and possibly hall tutors - there aren't many of them.

I was a first year in Sheavyn this year, and it's most definitely for undergraduates. The bedsits are also for undergraduates and tutors, who are usually phd students. Ashburne hall which is on the same grounds as sheavyn does have a post-grad wing.

This year in sheavyn it was mostly first years with a few second and third years scattered around. The only reason I can think it may have a reputation for students being older, is that this year many people I met had a gap year, but theyre common so that was no surprise. Nearly everyone i met there was up for a good time/going out, so i wouldnt worry about it having a bad social scene, as this year it rocked.

I knew a few freshers living in bedsits, and Im pretty sure the general feeling was that flats were the best option, as living in a bedsit essentially means cooking in your bedroom, and consequently always smelling of your dinner. Bedsits also have a view overlooking the back of sheavyn/ op- not very scenic.. the best plan is to try and get a bedroom in a flat overlooking the grounds of ashburne hall, unless of course you dont enjoy sharing a kitchen with others.

I think the ashburne/sheavyn grounds are definitely the most scenic, probably of all the accommodations in manchester
