Hello, first of all I would like to say I am impressed by the mature and intelligent responses that people show in the History section. Secondly I am wondering whether it is ok to include sociological concepts in a History Dissertation or would these concepts by regarded as vague?
Can you include sociological concepts within a History Dissertation Watch

If you could perhaps give an example- what is your topic and then proposed concept?
If in doubt, I'd ask your supervisor- they will definitely be able to advise you far better than TSR.

There is nothing wrong with quoting Marx in a History dissertation or citing EH Carr in a Sociology essay but you cannot go weaving off into the other discipline without getting yourself/your argument really confused because of the fundamental differences in methodology.
If you are contemplating anything more than the odd paragraph re. a sociology concept (ie. why its worth considering within your topic or why its inappropriate) then you really do need to have a serious chat with your supervisor first. Otherwise its likely to come over as half-witted waffle about a concept you dont totally understand - not a good look in a dissertation.
