I posted this somewhere else, but seemed to get no response yet so will share it here.

(Sorry about the change in font/size)

So I have received a place to study Law (LLB) at Leicester. Originally, I was going to study the Solicitor's Exempting (LLB) at Westminster, but, managed to get a place through adjustment at Leicester. I'm still really unsure though about what to do as I did have my heart set on studying in London (nightlife, great location etc.). I'm really stuck with choosing the right one. I know that Leicester is ranked significantly higher than Westminster, however, I was really keen on living/working in London. So if I do accept Leicester, I would definitely be interested in looking at getting work placement/vacation schemes in London (if possible). Would you think that this would be possible? Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm going to move this into Law (or merge this with your other thread if you have one there already). Its very busy in this forum today because of Results day, and your thread will slip off of the front page and not be seen if it stays here.

If you want my personal view (a) Leicester is a thriving multicultural city, and students love it. Just because its not London doesn't mean you won't have a blast there.
    (b) if you're going into Law you'll probably be spending large portions of your life in London anyway. Why the rush?
    (c) Leicester is ALOT more prestigious/respected than Westminster. That is obviously not the be all and end all. I would look at the specifics of the courses available and compare. But Law is a very competitive sector, and it is very plausible that the prestige might determine your opportunities in the future.

Thank you for your opinion, I do appreciate it. Yes, I know that law is extremely competitive and so I guess going to a more respected/prestigious university is certainly going to give me more of an edge. I guess a lot of lawyers go off to work in London, so I shouldn't be too worried on missing out on any 'opportunities' there. I think I am going to confirm my place at Leicester.

Definitely Liecester. The competitive advantage is very important for law, and the social scene there is meant to be very good as well. With regards to vacation schemes, there should be very little issue with you completing them in London.

I'm just going to say Leicester because I've got a place there but it's such a lovely place, the people are lovely, there's such a lovely mutlicultural background to the city and as it's been stated the department at Leicester is much more prestigious than Westminster :-)

Why not phone Westminster too - their law course scores really high on the NSS - 87% - so it's probably worth just thinking through one more time.

Best of luck whatever you choose!

Leicester, no disrespect to Westminster, but there is a huge advantage with name alone.

Sent Leicester admission team an email confirming my choice with them. My orthodontist pointed out that I would probably get more of a 'student life' at Leicester too. Most of the London university campuses are quite a distance from student halls so that was another thing to consider. Thanks for all your feedback guys!

That, and the cost of living, and of socialising, is infinitely cheaper at Leicester

:yy: Congratulations on your new place and have a blast

Leicester University has such a friendly it is so welcoming and studying here is really good. The campus is nice and small so it means that you never have to travel to far for lectures and it is only located 15 min walk from the city so its got lots on its doorstep. In terms of nights out we have our own O2 academy so attract some quite good acts and student nights are always good
