Obtaining Laboratory Work Experience for entry into Vet School
Hi,
I am currently in my first year of A Levels and I am looking to apply to read Veterinary Medicine.
I would like to gain some lab work experience, but trying to obtain a placement is proving a little harder than I expected.
Can anyone offer any tips, places to try or possible contacts that I may approach?
I would prefer Pathology lab work relating to Veteinary practises/animals rather than in a hospital, but I am open to all and any suggesstions.
Can anyone help?

Speak to a local vet practise (preferably one you've done some work at as they'll be more willing to help) as they'll have contact details. Alternatively, contact DEFRA for a list. Someone on the Oxbridge forum has done lab work recently, so have a look around posts relating to vets and you can find out who she is and pm her.

Ive applied for vet med and I did work experience at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency. It was ok - a bit quiet, but fairly interesting.
I would say contact your vets and ask them as there are a lot of different places specific to different things e.g. Axiom and places that just do bloods, histology etc. The VLA are associated with DEFRA, but it depends on where you live as to whether you could get one close by.
The other alternative for lab experience is to go into a hospital. Afterall its pretty similar. I would have considered that had I not got into VLA. Just also thought that if there are any universities close by - maybe they have some labs that you could go in and have a look at.
