    Hi guys.

just a quick question; i have been invited to an interview at Huddersfield university for their operating department practice (odp) course.

I haven't been given much time to prepare so i was wondering if anyone has any tips for me?

p.s. are clearing interviews just as intense as the normal university interviews (i didn't get any invites at the start of the year so this is my first one)

p.p.s. I am expecting the interviewer to question my choice in course, i am really interested in ODP but it wasn't my original choice, adult nursing was. but surly the interviewer will realise that most people will have had to go with their second course choice right?

    Thank You

they will be just as intense

If you say that you are only interested because you did not get adult nursing then they will not be interested

Look at your PS - pick out every statement that could also apply to ODP and think of a way to make that into a passionate declaration

Think about your experiences - how do they prepare you for ODP

See yourself in a job 5 or 10 years down the line - picture it - why are you enjoying what you are doing - why was this the best decision you ever made

    Passion for the course PASSION

    and good luck

    Passion for the course PASSION
This made me laugh in my head I imagined an elderly professor with lots of frizzy white hair and a tweed jacket yelling :P

    Over-active imagination aside...

OP passion for the course is a must! They will be expecting some people to just want to be on any course but no one wants a student like that because to be honest it's a little insulting and they could be taking a place from someone who really wants it.

So make sure you have an answer prepared that proves you are very interested in this specific course.

Hey, I phoned in at a university interested in the course it's self I know that i liked the clinical side of nursing and working as part of a team. basically they were telling me about the role of an odp unfortunatly i havent had any experience in nursing or odp roles so i have to verbally express myself. They explained that an ODP Is an operating department practioner who should enjoy working as a team and acomplising a hard challenging tasks such as operating on someone. you will only be cornered in this section were as nursing has a number of different routes so knowing this is good. I'd advise you to try contacting a member of staff at a hospital who works as an ODP to hear there say of the career. like people say you really have to show that you want become an ODP. as an ODP you will also work with theatre nurses but you can only succeed to senior level in your profession. were as nurses will be more highly trained and obtain a higher postion then you.

Any way I hoped this helped in making your decision.
