    Hi all,

I am thinking about getting a surface RT for uni instead of a traditional laptop, mainly because it is easy to carry around to the library etc but can still do written work on it.
Is anyone else planning on doing this or has any advice if this is a good or bad move?

    Many thanks

It wont replace your laptop, but for basic office use and media consumption it's great. Would recommend you try out the touch cover to see if you like it first though.

If you wanted a laptop/tablet convertible you'd be better off spending a couple more hundred pounds on the Surface with full Windows 8. You wouldn't be able to do too much on it, but you'd be able to do more than you would with an RT.

There's also Acer and Dell laptop/tablet convertibles for about £800 on the market.

Cool, I will take a look, Argos have a deal where you can buy the RT with touch keyboard so I will go for that if I buy one to make writing essays easier. As it has a full size USB can you put a memory stick in, and also I hear it comes with office, is it full or trial?

Comes with full Office Home and student. Windows RT though, so now other programs (like iTunes) can be installed if they're not on the windows store.

PCWorld offer the 32gb + Touch cover for £359. 32gb standard is £279, 64gb standard - £359. And they should have one on display as well to look at.

Give me you closest store and I'll check stock for you to see if they have some in.

If you're still looking its definitely worth paying extra for the Type cover - much easier to use
