Can i got to uni without a-levels?

Alright I have a few questions and desperately need HELP with them.

I have recently received my AS results (15 aug 2013) and they were pretty bad :frown::
Product Design= E
Art= U
French= C + U

My sixth form has allowed me to retake year 12 and do all my AS levels again but I was wondering if any one knows if I can retake the year in a different sixth form or college?

I also wanted to know if I can go to university without A-levels, if so what is need to get into universities?

And lastly would considering taking a apprenticeship be worth it or even better?

Thank you very much for the help!

Apprentice/Uni/Straight into work is a long debate to which no one can give you a definite answer that's up to you.

The other option in to University is Access to HE course.

I'd just retake the AS :smile:

Hi there,

This is a Fashion student from the University for the Creative Arts. If you're looking to study something creative I would recommend you take a look at the Access Diploma at UCA: http://www.ucreative.ac.uk/pre-degree

No formal qualifications are required and is another way to get you onto a degree rather than staying at college.

You can contact UCA at: [email protected] or call: 0800 068 0088. Also feel free to ask me anything else.

Good luck!

Hi Dodi,
Thank you for replying, I was thinking of combining D.T with languages, weird combination but I thought they'd work well together... I will certainly have a look it might all help me decide what to do. :smile:
I've just got into Sunderland uni without any A levels in engineering, most courses do let you in when you lack formal qualifications!

If you mean formal qualifications in the subject you want to go into, that's probably true (eg. No IT A Level but wanting to do CompSci but you have ABB or whatever elsewhere).

But if you mean NO qualifications then you're wrong "most" courses won't let you in.

You can always change to a different college or school, but the upheaval of the new environment coupled with the stress of fitting in and making new friends might be detrimental to your first month or so.

On the other hand, a change of scene might be just want you want, and a sixth form or FE college can offer a wider range of options eg you could take a BTEC alongside a couple of A-levels or whatever, and all the teachers will be specialised for the 16+ age group.

See if any colleges or other schools in your area sound good because a change might benefit you. Ask around if anyone's siblings have been to different places because word of mouth is a valuable tool in looking for a new place to study.

Hi I was wondering if you could tell me how hard your first year was because I am joining a fashion degree course in September and was seeing if I could cope on the course x

Hi Beth,

The first year will always be challenging, as it's another step up from A Levels, but tutors know this and you'll have the support you need in order to complete it.

If you have been accepted on the course then your course leaders have already decided, from your grades and portfolio, that your work is of a standard that you would benefit from the degree, so don't worry. If you do find yourself struggling then never be afraid to ask for help.

Hope that helps,
Emma

Hi Gabriela,

My situation is a bit different cause I didn't have my high school diploma in UK. But I know that college can help get into university. I studied in Kensington & Chelsea College for a about a year part time and got BTEC Award level 2 in graphic design. You can get higher qualification it depends what course you will sign for. I am mature student so I work full time and it is in the creative industry. When I decided to apply for university I applied with all my certificates from college, reference from work and my CV. So I think it is a good idea if you do apprenticeship somewhere and ask them for reference after. There is always a way if you want to study especially in UK :smile: So good luck and always enjoy what are you doing!
