I've tried applying to Halifax and Co-operative for a student account but was turned down because I have no credit history (just used a debit card for everyday shopping), so I'm obviously a moderate risk to the bank, despite showing proof of income from Student Finance when I will start uni in September. Tried also applying for a Capital One credit card, 6 months ago, to build a credit history but, surprise surprise, denied because of no credit history.

Anyone know any banks that are willing to take on greater risk? I know Santander use a risk-conservative business model so no point trying there. Need to be pretty certain third time round because already the credit scoring is taking a dive with these denied applications. Just need some sort of overdraft that will get me by until the loan and grant is paid in, as I will start uni before this will happen.

are you on the electoral role? make sure you get on it asap. tbh at the moment all banks are being very careful about who they take on
