I am a bit weird. When we go on holiday I never take my top off in public, hence I never go in the pool. I also don't like walking around with no socks on (I don't go around in socks and sandals though!).

I think it stems from when I was little, and also the fact I have heard my parents saying stuff like 'She is getting a bit fat, I really think she needs to start doing a bit of exercise', or 'He's getting a hairy chest now! (yah.. :lolwut:)' about my siblings when they are in their swimming shorts/costume when on holiday.

I'm not fat but i'm also not thin, I just don't feel comfortable walking around topless in front of everyone...

    Any thoughts?

Just do it lol. When you get to the pool, don't think. Just take it off and jump lol.
You should probably just get used to having it off from there. Kind of leaks off into other parts of your life as well so you never have to feel shy.

    go to the gym then?

Start that programme regardless of whether you are male or female and you'll feel way better.

Plus, exercise is linked to a healthy mental state, so it will be good for you mentally as well as physically.

Just look at all the other people around the pool with their tops off and notice that they aren't perfect either.... there will be wobbly people, wrinkly people, scrawny people, sunburnt people, pasty people.... and nobody is judging them, or if they are they should be spending their life doing better things. Holidays are for enjoying!
