Sounds like a plan.
Anyway, I plan to have my kids at SATs standard by the time they start school. Then GCSE by 10. A Level by 14.

There's this Chinese girl who can do logs to 2dp in her head. She's going to Cambridge for Mathematics LOL
She got a gold in the Physics Olympiad (top 50 in country) and she got full marks in the Senior Maths Challenge. But she doesn't speak. It'd be awesome if my child was that clever haha.

Jeez. I think Id rather my child speak to be honest though. Hopefully I find someone equally intelligent to marry and we cam produce genius offspring! :ahee:

I do all those (well dropped geography for bio which is ****)

French I do!

Aww, I was about to say snap. Why did you drop Geography?

I was so p***** with my teachers last year - I took French GCSE in Year 10, and begged them to do the AS in Year 11 but they wouldn't let me, and made me take a different course that was basically equivalent in content! I was so annoyed. :frown: I try to keep it up by reading parallel text stories (and not cheating too much...).

You did A Level Maths early, right?

Those subjects sound intense! I'm torn between music performance at a conservatoire or something more sciencey! You?

It's manageable, I guess. How are you finding your A Levels?
Music performance sounds scary! I'm thinking Natural Science for university, but I'm not sure what I want to specialise in. I'm really interested in the whole science-behind-music type thing, but I like Chemistry a lot too. Although there's still a tiny part of me saying just to completely change tack and do a music production degree instead!

I loveeeeeee Chemistry! I'm applying for Natural Sciences at Cambridge. I'm going to the Pembroke College open day on 17/04, might be worth checking out?

Yay, Chemistry! I *may* be going to an Applied Maths and Physics masterclass at Pembroke on the 14th of April, so I probably won't bother going to the open day! What do you like about Pembroke so much? I'm stuck between Sidney, Homerton, Fitz and maybe Queens'. Are you thinking of applying for the Chemistry masterclass that opens on Friday?

I'm finding them really enjoyable! The content is challenging and the exams don't seem too awful! Aha, that's interesting because my EPQ is on how frequencies interact and their applications in pieces of music!(basically:cool:) I don't think music production would pay as much:tongue: I'm guessing you play then?

Oh I'm so jealous of your EPQ! That sounds amazing! Do you have any recommended reading on that sort of stuff, because I'd be REALLY interested in learning more about it? The only EPQ my school could support me with was one to do with the chemical and geological legacy of local, disused lead mines, but it'll be interesting I guess. :s-smilie:

Haha, that's what everyone says when I suggest music production. I play guitar, piano, bass and I *try* to sing a bit too, but I really enjoy the whole recording/production process as much as writing music itself. (Knowing how to work the software is a massive bonus for being in a band though, as we get recording time for next to nothing.) But I don't think I'm really going to be swayed from science. What areas of science are you interested in, if you don't do something music-related?

Good shout! I had no idea about the masterclass at all so I'll book for it as soon as they're available!
Why Pembroke? From the pros and cons:

As a scientist: close to all the lecture theatres

Accomodation for all 3 years (plus another 3 years if a clinical medical student)

Has travel grants and book grants ever year for students

Has research grants for summer work for students

Very quiet during exam term, which is a bonus for concentration!

Strong academic performance (2nd in 2013), without being a massive hot-house. You are still encouraged to do other things.

Basically, the most pros for me!

I'm still not sure though, I'll see after the open day. I'm a really versatile person so I'll be happy with any college, really, but I'll apply to the one that appeals to me the most obviously  What about you? Why those colleges?

Actually the Pembroke masterclass was something offered to certain schools including mine, being from a not great area etc etc, so if you haven't already been told about it then I doubt you can book. :dontknow: But you should definitely try for the Chemistry one!

Pembroke does sound nice, although I've heard it can be quite hard to get into - not that I try to look at the stats too much! But if it's the one you're keen on then go for it.

I like Homerton and Fitz because they're a bit more modern (not too keen on the old-fashioned, more ostentatious colleges) and not always mobbed by tourists; Queens' because it's by the river and it's a nice size; Sidney just seemed super great when I went to visit. They weren't open to visitors, but when I explained to the porters that I was thinking of applying they ushered me right in and gave me loads of prospectuses and info! Plus the gardens were lovely.

Geography was the most boring thing ever  so easy too...

Oh that's annoying! I'd have done another GCSE language instead of that! You can practise with me if you like

And yes! I did, resitting C3 though because it was a disaster (well an A but I thought I had full marks in that:colonhash: so need the A*)
