Turning up 20 minutes late

This is gonna dwell on me till August now .. but how much is a disadvantage of turning up to a 1 hour and 30 minute exam 20 minutes late?

Had Bu5w (wasn't resiting bus4) and had it in my mind that they would go in order, thankfully I checked at 9:15 to find out my exam was first then had to race to college. :frown:

(pointless thread I know, but at least it should make you guys and gals feel a bit better )

Depends what your start times are?
I thought if its at 9.30 or 2.00pm (latest times possible) you cant sit an exam if you come any later..
Whereas if starts are at 8.30am and 1.30pm you can be up to 59 minutes later and be kept in isolation and do the exams afterwards?

at my college they always let people in during the first hour even if the exam was only 90min and gave them extra time at the end

Reply 3

didnt they give you extra time?

Not at all, and I wouldn't have had the cheek to ask.
I reckon I done well for the time I had but real gutted cause I know I could have performed better given a higher amount of time. :frown:

It's not cheeky to ask, it's sensible. You're entitled to the full time, but if you didn't bother to ask for it you can't complain I'm afraid.

 I'm sure this is against the rules! At my college they're always going on about how you cant be allowed in even if you have the worlds greatest excuse (dead grandmas etc) if ure more that 30mins late, and before that you have to be able to provide documented evidence of your reason and won't be given extra time. They're supposed to have tightened the rules a lot, at GCSE we were allowed in up to an hour late with extra time, because people werent allowed out until an hour after the published start time anyway so there could be no cheating.

It depends what time everyone else starts as to whether this is against the rules. PM exams are supposed to start at 1.30pm, but schools and colleges are allowed to start half an hour either way of this so that exams fit in with timetables. Therefore some schools might start at 1.00, and others might not start until 2.00. If you go to a school which timetables afternoon exams for 1.00pm, then you can start up to an hour after that and still be within the rules. It's the same with AM exams, but a different start time obviously.

My school must be lying to us then - our sessions start at 9am and 1pm, and we're not allowed in after 30mins. Or even before that if you just have an excuse about buses etc

I was late to my exam last year, because I misread my timetable and thought it was an afternoon exam and not a morning exam. If you get there 30 minutes after the exam starts, you're allowed full time (thats what happened with me) but if you're over, you're not allowe to sit the exam. I'm suprised your teachers didn't allow you to have the full amount since you were only 20 minutes late.

I think at our school you're allowed to have the full time if you're up to half an hour late and if you're more than that you can sit it anyway, but it's up to the exam board whether they accept it or not...

i was two hours late for a three hour exam at AS! i got my times mixed up, but luckily got to college before the exam had finished. they put me in isolation, and i took it on my own in the afternoon. they told me that they weren't sure if it would be marked and it played on my mind ALL summer. luckily it was, and i got an A!! so don't worry, i'm sure you'll be ok.

i thought that the strict guidlines were that ure allowed in up to half an hour late and only allowed to leave a maximum of half an hour early. Otherwise someone could just leave early and tell someone else the answers who would go in slightly late.
