I went to a comp, and lots of people from my school went to Leeds. What course is it where there are only 2 state school students? My friends friends seem to mostly come from state schools, and not everyone from a private school is automatically 'posh' anyway.

Most are because they are rich enough to go private school in the first place. The only people i have come across who went private schools and arnt posh were rugby players who got scholarships.
I meant it is fair in so far as they are not biased towards private school students.

What do you mean by 'posh' anyway? I have lots of friends from private schools whose parents have lots of money and I have never felt inferior to them, neither have they made me feel so. In fact, some are impressed I got the results I did from a comprehensive, saying they felt 'spoon-fed' at their schools, whereas as result of poor teaching I just had to get on with it.
Surely one of the good thigns about going to university is that you get to mix with people from a wide variety of backgrounds rather than just sticking with people whose background is identical to your own? Broadening the mind, and all that.....
I'm what you could call working-class, but I daresay people who attend Leeds Uni aren't that narrow-minded to stereotype me because of that fact. I may be wrong. But as far as I am concerned it isn't the person's reputed social class it's their educational ability, and going to the same uni I should think that should be similar for everyone.
preach!
Leeds uni is posh as they come! I was shocked when I first arrived how many students went to private schools. Plus the other downer for me was that coming from south london, i had to get used to the amount of northerners and the lingo they chat. Total culture shock. Northerners who are posh from private schools, a south londerners worst nightmare.

Where have i stated that I just stuck with people from the same background as me? Its easier making close friends from similar backgrounds because they can easily relate to you but i never said I stayed away from "posh" people. Infact i made quite a few mates who were posh and enjoyed quite a bit of banter with them ie them calling me a northern scrubber.... me calling them snobby nosed *****...

There are a LOT more rars than I thought there would be. Complaining to mummy on their mobiles about the frightful northern weather and how (this was actually heard by a housemate) they "Can't wait to get back down to London, back to civilisation!". Like we asked them to come here. However, take them for who they are and not what school they went to and ignore the people who look down on you because they don't do the same. Their loss.

There are plenty of people who went to state schools as well so whichever category you fall into, you shouldn't feel too isolated to begin with and should be able to mingle anyway with any luck. Anyone feel free to contradict this, but I got the impression that catered blocks attract the more affluent so if you don't want to feel too common and don't mind not having your meals cooked for you like kids, go self-catered.

frightful northern weather?

it was warmer in leeds than it was in kent (and london as i had to get a train via london).. dont get what everyone says about it being cold up north!

This is some funny stuff seriously. Who cares where they went to school? You're all in the same boat now and thats all that matters. Perhaps there are more so called 'rahs' because Leeds ISN'T bias towards poor people... i.e. giving them lower entry levels etc, which sounds good to me because all students will be of the same academic ability. Another reason is that Leeds attracts many of the failed oxbridge applicants because it is one of the next best uni's. I'm not too fussed that i have to live on a lesser ammount than they do, i mean i have for my whole life so whats the difference now, its done me well so far and im sure it will get me through uni. I also know for a fact that when i leave uni we will all have the same degree but I will know how to budget my money more effectively and work for it. I know that if my parents could afford it I would be a 'rah', and i know that if I was a parent my children would certainly be a 'rah'. Aslong as they aren't anti-social and they make friends well I really don't mind .

i really couldn't care less what type of people are there. They could be cats for all i care, aslong as a few people have a good sense of humour i'm sorted!

p.s reading some of the posts made on this website (not in the leeds forum btw) i'm kinda appauled at the greatness of the egos of some people! It's those i think we should look out for, not the "rahs"!

pretty much how i feel!
I cant stand northern people thinking that all southerners or londoners are rahs. From my experience 90% of the northerners at uni are rahs, trying to act hard taking the piss out of southerners because there from up north, mugs. Half you northerners at leeds are a bunch of gimps who give it large to southerners from private schools and then when you meet somebody from a rough part of London you bum them and you dont take the piss. ahrrggghhh hate fake northern working class wannabes. jumping on the we hate southerners line. *****!!!

Before i went uni i had never heard of the word "rah" we normally just call you a bunch of toffs and in most cases you live up to your stereotype but like i have said earlier i made quite a few friends from the south who were sound.

It depends what you class as a geek because in general most people at uni are and by that i mean do work way too much and have lead sheltered lives as they were growing up.

As for rough parts of london i went to a gig last year at brixton and all the southerners in my house were saying oh i wouldnt park near the gig i would park at blah blah station and then get the train in or tube what ever you call it. luckily i didnt pay any attention and parked pretty much right outside the venue and had no troubles what so ever.

Rather than keeping this north south divide something you have to learn and accept at uni is that there is going to be banter but on most ocassions its just a bit of light hearted fun.
hand on heart i don't give a **** where anyones from as long as they're sound.

i'm not going to "pretend" to be working class nor have i been sheltered growing up and by NO means do i work too hard!!

when people start pretending and putting on a front thats when things go wrong. I'm not expecting everyone to get along with joined hands, flower chains and picnics on a sunny saturday afternoon but i'm certainly not expecting such a divide as jonnypicasso is leading me to believe!

With these kind of thoughts its a good job you are staying at bod theres plenty of fields for er picnics...
larry182, well done mate your car didn't get knicked outside Brixton academy, so therefore london aint rough, you stupid soppy boll**cks c**t. Oh and southerners are generally toffs, lol, dont get me wrong i'm sure some are. But the truth is that most people who go to leeds uni went to a private school or a grammar school and this is true if your from the north or the south. The only difference is that people from the south dont try and give it to big ones like the northerners. Most of which went to private schools themselves!!

Anyway its all a joke anyway I've got many a northern monkey friend from Leeds and we have a laugh about it.

In the end it does't matter where you come from as long as it aint from Up North!!!!!!!!!!!
