Going there in October to study History. Whats it like in terms of reputation, accomodation social life etc. Thanks

oh, and does it have any sort of reputation for history?

As no-one from Somerville has replied and I live just round the corner from the college I feel an obligation to give you some sort of reply!

Location - handy for the pubs, eating places etc in Jericho. Ten mins walk to History Faculty but when they move to the Radcliffe site next door in a couple of years or so you'll be about 1 minute away if you travel slowly.

Reputation - not easy to summarise but generally people seem positive about it. Still retains some of its progressive image from its early days. I believe it has the highest percentage of women of the mixed colleges, has few of the rah rah minority and benefits from both. My impression is that Somerville people seem very active in a lot of uni wide things. Social life is good judging by those that frequent my local pub.

Accomodation - other than quite a lot live out in their second year can't tell you much.

History - pretty good apparently. Tutors very friendly, sympathetic etc - one very prominent in their field - 18th century Britain ? - second hand info from the historian downstairs.
