it is given a force and then hence the ball then moves in a circular path

(a) explain how they provide the force to make the ball move in a circular path

(b) The ball has mass 0.020 kg and moves in a circle of radius 0.050 m at 1.2 revs per sec

Calculate the speed of the ball

and the magnitude of the force

(c) predict and explain the difference in the path of the ball when it is rotating at a higher speed

(a) the sum of the tension and weight provides a horizontal force that acts towards the centre of rotation

(b) V = 2pi x R x f

= 2pi x 0.050 x 1.2 = 0.38 ms-1

magnitude

which is 0.002 x (0.38 squared ) / 0.050 = 0.057 N

moves in a larger diameter therefore longer path.. larger centripetal force and hence acceleration is requred provided by a larger horizontal component of tension... greater angle of string to axis
