what else are you studying apart from linguistics and french, eng lang?
Lol I'll second that, I feel a bit stupid coz I entitled the thread 'Linguistics at Lancaster' and it should've been 'Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster' oh well I've been trying to revise History all day today... ahh, just looked at the clock and saw it's 5pm... where on earth does the time go?
Yep totally agree with that... especially after tryin to revise Hitler and the Nazis for history all weekend, first thing on mon... ahhhh.... oh well. I have my accomodation form all filled out and waiting to be sent off... Lonsdale here we come! (Maybe we'll be flatmates loz )

flatmates here we come!!! btw, what are you revising 4 acquisition?
I do Hitler and the Nazis, did it this morning, hope I never have to revise for that exam again, although actually it went okay.
To be honest with you loz I haven't done much revision yet because Lang Acq is next week and this week I have another RS exam on Wed and another Hist exam on Fri, and then the Ed Writing Exam and RS on Mon and then Lang Acq on Wed... how're you gonna revise? PS, did you get the ed writing packs tody? If so what did you think of them?
Hey, I hope you gets get into Lanc its an amazing uni... Just wanted to throw in my input, not trying to put you off at all as obviously this is just my and my friends on the courses opinion, but I took english language and linguistics. Went into it thinking it would be really intresting - well in comparison, english lang is much more intresting, but the linguistics side was a running joke.
The guy lecturing one of the ling modules clearly knew his stuff but just had no talent at projecting it to us at all, leaving us stumped and more confused, especially as we found the content really really difficult especially compared to the English Language course. The key book offered was written by the same guy lecturing so that didn't help matters either! There were 2 linguistics modules, and one was actually well taught and more interesting, but the other was so poor and so challenging that it just left me and others baffled. Im just hoping ive scraped a pass in the exam having failed to understand the entires years modules and having awful help and feedback from the linguistics tutors.
This sounds like im completely slating the subject, but like I said I just thought it might be valuable to hear a more negative side of it, because it might make you look at the course and content more especially if anyones thinking of choosing it as a minor. We have also moaned about it quite alot so hopefully they will take our feedback into consideration for next years teaching. Like I said, some parts were good, others were just tragic. Maybe it just wasnt for me, and it might be for you, I hope I dont worry anyone or put you off, if you really dislike anything you can switch majors or drop it anyway so you dont really have anything to lose
Thanks for your comments pinkywinks, I'm planning to do Linguistics, Philosophy and English Language as my 3 subjects and I put my name down for Linguistics but I may change it to Eng Lang if I prefer Eng Lang... useful to hear the negative side though thanks

Hey! I know exactly what you mean, I'm also just moving into my second year on a full time English Language and Linguistics degree. First year is pretty much covering everything lightly, and is just an intro to each 'mini' subject, so lots to comit to memory for exams but not unpassable! I passed !

I passed too (somehow)! Glad you agree though, I think probably next year would be better when the lectures know your actually interested in the subject and not just doing it to fill a gap in your timetable like in first year
