Hi, I'm hoping to do Linguistics at Lancaster next year and I know two other people that are on this forum, Loz and Holly_golightly, anyone else planning to?
I passed too (somehow)! Glad you agree though, I think probably next year would be better when the lectures know your actually interested in the subject and not just doing it to fill a gap in your timetable like in first year
has anyone bought the linguistics books yet? So far i've received what can only be described as a doorstop!
don't panic neither have i! I just bought the two 'recommended reading' books that they mentioned in that big green book, thought it might be an idea to savvy myself up a bit as i've never done english language!
My advice for first year books is to buy off someone who's finished their first year. There's normally about three chapters a week reading to do, and as far as I can see I will be selling on almost all of my books from last year from english language and sociolinguistics! I have a whole new reading list! This is going to leave one BIG hole in my bank account!!!!
I went to Manchester not the Saturday just gone but the Saturday before to get some of the books that are in the A4 green schemes of study book. I got about 3 or 4 linguistics books and 1 or 2 English Langauge books as am doing English Language and Philosophy books as minors, but they didn't have any of the philosophy books Oh well I reckon I'll just look in the Waterstones on campus
