Finding a doctor/GP in Durham

Hi All,

Looking for current students/residents of Durham to answer this. I'm starting at Durham (St. Aidan's college) in October and I'm looking to register with a GP in the area. I wondered if there was anywhere/any particular doctor who is known to be good at dealing with mental health issues? If anyone has any experience or suggestions I'd be most grateful.

Thanks.

Durham University's got quite a few support networks, from college Welfare Officers, to Senior Tutors, to the Counselling service - I'd recommend getting in contact with them to ask for advice.

You are expected to register at the Claypath and University Medical Group, who have a large community surgery at Claypath and the University Medical centre on Green Lane near Old Elvet.

The practice has an agreement in place with the university when it comes to charging or medical evidence. So, if you need a letter for a medical concession, they wil charge the university directly, not you. Other practice will charge you directly.

It is a big group ith many doctors, and good with mental health in my experience. Being the university practice they are specialists in student health.

I say you are expected to register with them. This does not mean you have to. But if you do chose another practice you may need to pay for medical evidence.
