I'm moving away to Manchester. I even turned down Imperial for this purpose. I want to get away from my family and get myself a fun new life. And I'd relish the challenge of near-independence. I want to show I can get on in the world without my folks feeding me. I have things to stay in London for, like my friends, but I feel I have too much of my past here, so off I go.

As for yourself, it depends where you'd feel better. The comfort of home or the challenge of away.

As a university it is. As a place to spend three years of your life...

I didn't like the area that much. And I'm not too keen on the gender ratio either.

You don't have to go to a far-away university to prove your independence. Just move out, simple.
    One of these days.

I am staying at home as there are 5 universities near me and about 10 within an hour and a half traveling distance it would hae been pointless moving out because of the debt.

I am mostly happy at home and I still pretty much of indepance. I basicaly just come and go as I please.

I think i already talked to ya bout this but im gonna say6 make a list of pro's and con's and which ever outnumbers the opther i would do, but im thinking that going away to Uni would be better because of local acces to Information, closer to campus, more peace to study coz u got a dorm room and well a whole new experiance.....wait a minute you've already decided and i know what u've chosen....WOO HOO for KITA.....SHE'S GOING TO BIRMINGHAM.......Guys WATCH OUT lol x

yea, write a pros and cons list =)

as mentioed, i think you still can get your independence in ur home city - you can always move out.

i'm glad i stayed at home altho i did often feel i didn't make as many good friends as i would have if i lived i halls. anyway, i managed to graduate with no debt, and had loadsa support from family during finals. can't beat home comforts. also went away for a year on exchange, and it was the best year of my life.

imperial is a top 5 uk uni. no disrespect to bham, but imperial is way more prestigious. however, maybe bham is more suited to u. who knows?

its increasingly common for students to stay nearer home now. you should go away if u don't mind incurring debt, and being at a lesser well known uni. however, movign away is more exciting, and no doubt, more fun.

whatever u choose i hope u can be happy and good luck!

Living in the NY metropolitan area, I could have gone to NYU or Columbia but I sought adventure instead, so I am off to St. Andrews.

If Birmingham's better, go there. Try not to worry about student debts, because you can (just) live off your loan and don't have to pay it back until you work. I live in halls of residence and was really worried about it at first, because I wasn't the most sociable person, and I wasn't sure I'd have that good a time. However, being thrust into a house full of strangers, you quickly learn to socialise more and make great friends, and you've got hundreds of people you know around if you're bored (and if you need help with uni work). You can always find someone to have fun with any time day or night when you're bored, go to halls!!!
