Skirts aren't really the most practical theme park wear... Something which isn't denim (if you're planning to go on water rides) and most importantly... COMFORTABLE SHOES! (Plus, might be an idea not to wear flip flops. You have to wear shoes on rides, I think, or at least have them on your person when you're on there, which means flip-flops/slip-ons aren't particularly great for floorless rides like Nemesis and Air)

You can take your shoes off. I always take mine off when I go on Nemesis.

I would say maybe cropped trousers? But yeah definitely not denim if you're gonna go on any water rides.

what do i wear to alton towers on monday? i'm not sure what the weather's going to be like and i don't know if i would look like a whore if i wore a skirt...what do you wise peepz of tsr reckon? fankooo  :suith::suith::suith:

Hey there grace,

I had a BRILLIANT day there two Mondays ago! Make sure you win a huge Alex the Lion at the stalls, inbetween getting thrills on the rides.

Go on Rita first - you have to experience the immediate zooming-off start! Don't walk across the skylift bit - take the skylift otherwise you will run out of time to go on all the great rides. Round off with the water rides, you can afford the time to use the drying machines once you've been everywhere else.

As for clothes - jeans will be fine. You really don't want a skirt for when your picture's being taken on Nemesis! Don't worry about getting wet cos there are huge drying machines for groups of people at a time along the exit paths for the water rides, but don't wear a white/pale top! Have some sort of hat - otherwise you could roast in the queue. I had a wide-brimmed beachcomber number - twas fun to pick a cute attendant at each ride and stick it on her head before I rode. Shoes can go in the sectioned cages along with bags at the rides, too. Stick a bottle of water in the freezer the night before as well - at least 500ml per person.

Most of all, enjoy your day! And get your friends to all do the same pose on the extreme rides - it'll make the pictures even funnier and loads more special.

Might just be a Thorpe Park policy then. I assumed it would be the same for all Tussards Parks, sorry! Still, make sure they're comfortable shoes, Alton Towers is HUGE! (And yeah, there's the skylift but the walk's not that bad... Unless you get lost... Not that we got lost... Ahem)

Oh, and if you have a bad neck... Don't go on Corkscrew. Most uncomfortable rollercoaster ever

Don't wear white if you're planning to go on the water rides.:p:

aww thanks guys for all the input but now i'm confused; the only cropped trousers i have are denim, and really the only non-denim trousers i have are combats which i don't particularly want to wear or white linen trousers which would be worse on water rides than denim! arrrgh

plus i want to look supercute because me and my best friend and our boyfriends are going and we just generally want it to be a fun and comfortable and cute day. wish i could just wear potatoe sacks, lol

Denim will be fine! There's only one ride - ripsaw - that totally soaks your top and just one - the flume - that soaks everything below your torso; and both have the drying machines on the way out.

If the weather's like this you'll probably be OK with denim anyway! (And that's a much better option than white- not just see-through but the water's not particularly clean either :p:)

Cheer up, sparkler - we could organise a Southern TSRers (+friends+1s) crazily fun day out at Thorpe Park. It's pretty straightforward and cheap - £25.80 in all - £15 ticket with lastminute.com, £10.80 train return from London.

Northerners can go to Alton Towers too - so not the drama.

thorpe park is wicked  though i'm hardly a northerner, i live in surrey and go to uni in the midlands :p: i think i've decided on dark denim cropped jeans, a dusky pink halterneck top made out of kind of jersey/knit material with a short sleeved floral wrap around top over the top, some pearls and silver dolly shoes; how does that sound?

take a some spare knickers! Walking around with a wet butt is not nice at all.

Thanks  I'm going to alton towers on Thursday, so this has been appreciated! Has anyone got a route planner or anything to say which rides we should visit in each order??

I'll have to see if I can spot you in the crowd Grace. I take it you're in Meriden house?

I'm going with jeans, but I am a little worried about the water rides. Wet jeans are not pleasant.

If it's hot denim will dry quickly, no problem. If it was me going I'd probably go for shorts (bought some really cute denim ones the other day) with a polo shirt or something, really casual and comfy.

Im hating you all right now too i have two exams tomorrow when youll be running around alton towers :frown:

i wouldnt recommend denim because it really isnt much fun when wet and takes ages to dry but youre outfit does sound cute!

lol, actually i'm in cryfield but my boyfriend is in rootes and i'm tagging along with him ...i'm thinking maybe we'll just go on the water rides last of all, so that way if we get soaked and uncomfortable we'll be going back home anyway so we won't have to trudge around the park soaking wet! i'll try and spot you, it's not too hard to miss someone with a robot head  lol

Denim will be fine once you've had a wiggle around in one of the big walk-in drying machines.

Alton Towers bought the machines so visitors wouldn't have to compromise on their look to visit - so expect to see lots of hot people. And lots of trailer trash too.
