Fluid retention or actual fat? (the pill)

Hi everyone, I have a question. When you gain weight on the pill is it usually due to more fat in the body or is a lot of it fluid retention? Before I started the pill I was 9st4 and I'm now 10st exactly. Since I'm 5'5 I'm not exactly thrilled about this and think I'm getting towards being overweight (another 4Ibs or so according to the weight/height ration graphs I've seen :frown: ).

The thing is, I don't really feel that much fatter, more than anything my tummy feels very bloated. I do get quite a lot of exercise, not loads (I'm not down the gym for hours every night or anything) and in the same way my diet is fairly healthy but I'm not majorally strict upon myself, I always like the odd bar of chocolate and packet of crisps. Should I really be pushing myself more and consciously be trying to lose weight since I'm on the pill, or is any weight gain unavoidable?

Also, any ideas on how to avoid bloating? Are there any foods or medication that actively releave pill side-effects?

Bloatedness is quiet common especially before the period. If its the week before your period the weight increase is likely to be down to water retention otherwise its probabily your bust filling out some. When i went on the pill my bust increased a fair bit.

What time period have you put the weight on over? Have you noticed increased appetite? Do your clothes still fit?

get a body composition test.

Well my bust is still the same size but does feel a bit fuller. Even so, my breasts haven't dramatically increased or anything so I don't think it's that.

I was originally on the pill a few months ago, then freaked out when I went from 9st4 to nearly 10st in just a month so came off it. Then last month my weight got down to about 9 1/2st and I decided to go back on the pill just to use the spare packs up and see what happens. I haven't really noticed that much of an increased appetite but I think this is because now I've finished 6th form it's so much easier to choose when to eat. When I was still at 6th form I would end up feeling really hungry all the time. My clothes do still fit, I'm still a size 10 and they don't feel tighter...this is the main reason why the weight gain confuses me. The scales say I'm heavier (and my scales aren't broken, we have two sets and they say the same thing) and yet sometimes size 10 trousers literally hang off me.

Screw the scales. If you don't look any different then who cares?

the pill can make people put on weight, it did me for a while, your body needs to get used to the hormone levels, if it is bothering you a lot change the pill

Well if clothes are fitting the same and you don't feel fatter, and you haven't noticed an appetite increase then don't worry, it'll be fluid retention, its a side effect of many pills.
