What is it with seemingly everyone posting on here doing Economics and Management?

Reply 2

i don't know about your course specifically...but i would say any degree from bristol has pretty good graduate prospects!

feel free to correct me if i'm wrong!

Bristol is really good. For Economics, this is how it goes

Oxbridge, LSE ---------------------------- TIER 1

Bristol, UCL, Warwick, Notts ----------- TIER 2

Bath, Durham, Manchester, KCL, etc. -- TIER 3

(G)imperial and other universities flit between groups. So Bristol is good!

Perhaps in terms of quality of education, but in terms of how desirable they are to financial firms Oxbridge and the LSE are certainly up above Warwick and UCL. Allthough you are right they are not too far behind.

the mention of Imperial I mean, which doesn't offer an Econ course as far as I'm aware

Reply 12

Warwick and UCL < Oxbridge and LSE in terms of employment prospects.

Correct, Imperial doesn't do Econ, which is why I said it flits between groups (it's Math, Physics and Comp Sci courses are really top notch and may edge 1st tier).

surely your original post should read:
'Bristol is really good for Economics. This is how it goes:'
if you are reffering the tiering system in general? Imperial would be pretty much to for any course it offers though I would have imagined.

How about medicine IF i dont become a doctor? Say financial management of health authorities/work for DoH in government/private sector?

Reply 15

If you like; I guess I thought everyone would already know Imperial doesn't do Economics.

Reply 16

then why mention Imperial flitting between groups, when you've stated you're talking about Econ?

The OP wanted to know what the graduate prospects of studying E+F at Bristol were. In the most simple of terms, they wanted to know how their degree would compare to those of other people who would be applying to the same jobs as them; this doesn't mean other people studying Economics, it means people who study quantitative or management-based subjects, both of which Imperial offers.

I recognised that Imperial doesn't do Economics so I included it in a footnote below to give an indication of where its other grads would rank on an overall table. You might want to check out Imperial's world-renowned business school, Tanaka (http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/tanakabusinessschool) for an idea of the sort of Imperial grads which might compete with a Bristol E+F student for a job.

To the guy who mentioned that King's doesn't have an Econ course, it has its own version (Economics in all but name):http://www.kcl.ac.uk/ugp07/programme/54.
