2014 Veterinary Nursing

I'm doing A2 Biology, Art and I.T . I know Harper Adams, Myerscough, Bristol (bio-veterinary), Middlesex, Anglia Ruskin, Nottingham Trent all do vet nursing. Also Edinburgh Napier does it as well....that's in Scotland however
Can you still be a veterinary surgeon without a level chemistry? If not what other careers could I go into in?

I think most vet physio courses require chemistry however don't quote me on it!
But you could do vet nursing, zoology, animal behaviour?

hmmm but how can u become a veterinary physiotherapist? iv never really seen any courses or job prfiles?

They do a course for it at Harper Adams, not sure where else though
Liverpool and Bristol do it as a postgraduate degree too. But I think Harper Adams is possibly the only place to offer it as an undergraduate degree. Here's the entry requirements for veterinary physiotherapy at harper adams http://www.harper-adams.ac.uk/undergraduate/201002/phy/veterinary-physiotherapy

Sounds interesting but veterinary physiotherapy would mainly be dogs wouldnt it? prefer vet nursing; more variety!

Yeh think its mainly dogs and horses

Apart from the obvious lack of having an A level in chemistry are there any other reasons for you not all not applying for vetmed?

Vet nursing is more hands on in the care of the animals whereas vets are busy with diagnostics and surgery. Think I'm more suited to the hands on care
For me the job of a vet would be way too stressful....plus I know I'm not smart enough to get a degree in veterinary medicine as it's an extremely difficult course, I know someone who back when the course was 7 years long.....just at the end of her 7th year...she failed o.O I can't imagine how horrible and infuriating that must have been. Plus I can cope with watching operations....there's no way I could ever perform one
I wouldn't be able to get into Vet Medicine because of the grade requirements and I agree that the nursing is much more practical  plus the Vet Med course is soooo long! Done a lot of volunteering in a practice and the nurses do spend so much more time with the animals and walking the dogs etc. and I really like that aspect to it.

No way I'd get into vedmed lol, as you have all said I like the more hands on role of a veterinary nurse too

At Harper Adams you can't go straight into the BSc in Veterinary Nursing, can you? you would have to do FdSc Vet Nursing and then do the top up year to a BSc if you wanted??
But there is the Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management BSc you can go straight into..

Anyone who is thinking about Harper Adams...would you go for the Vet Nursing and practice management one or do the foundation and the top up year?
Im going to apply do the foundation degree and and the honours degree, im still unsure which one id rather do atm

Hi everybody,

Just about to send off my Uni application off to RVC London, Plumpton, Nottingham Trent, Warwickshire and Middlesex for the foundation degree in vet nursing.

As a mature student of 46 I feel extremely excited and nervous at the same time! Does anybody know how long we have to wait before we actually hear from the Uni's ?
