Should I have taken business studies at GCSE?

Now i look back, geography+history were a bit of a waste......ill get very good grades but i feel they are gonna be a bit useless in future.....
Ive just been looking at BiteSize Business studies....its so interesting....and would have been more useful.

As i didnt take the B-Studies at GCSE , will i be able to cope at A level with business studies or economics?

i think it depends on the exam board you are doing it with

The AQA one says that 'no previous business studies knowledge required'

But OCR says 'minimum of grade B in business studies gcse'

I don't know about Edexcel

So you should be fine if your doing AQA,

Hope that helps

I did Business Studies (well just did the exam on Thursday) be glad that you didn't take it, I hated it. Anyway, I don't think that you will be suffer or fall behind, GCSE Business Studies is very easy to understand and you can probably cover the course in one or two weeks. If you've got an analytical mind that is good enough.

Would any of u guys reccomend it for Alevel?

Nearly everyone didn't study Economics before in our class, and are expecting As, mainly because Economics isn't really offered at GCSE level and most of the students in my class are really bright.

Anyway, I studied GCSE Business Studies and it was quite boring for the most part. If you want to study business studies A level, it may not be respected by many unis, and if you like stuff to do with the government and trading with other countries, exchange rate and more macro economy rather than micro (individual firms) then I recommend Economics, which is just as good and isn't on the LSE Blacklist (in case you wish to take another subject from their blacklist).

Don't take Business Studies. It is (in my opinion) boring and irrelevant.
Economics would certainly be a better choice.

Thanks 4 all the replys.
Hmm...i guess business studies isnt that hard to grasp then (gcse or alevel). Im hoping to study law at uni, and was wondering if economics would be a nice alevel. But the thing is i want AAA at level, maybe economics might be interesting but ill end up with a B? I think ill add it as my 4th subject.

I wouldn't really reccommend taking business studies for a level if you have a gcse in it, because most of the a level course is gcse level, most of our revision notes are from the bitesize website. However if you haven't got a gcse in it , I suppose it is quite valuable knowledge, however i found it extremely boring and tedious as it didn't really require any thought. I did WJEC by the way,.

it's a load of **** apparently, 'swat everyone says around my school. The A level exams seem to be based on using as much business language as possible (before the exams the teacher comes in and gives a pep talk to that effect).

So no, don't do it, do geography or something interesting.

Hi
Ive just finished my A level's and i've just completed A level business, predicted grade A, and i'd never done GCSE business studies!!
In my opinion, if you can spell, your name you can do business studies!!! Go for it, easy UCAS points IMO!!!

i took eco and loved it - was really interesting!

but lots of my friends did Business Studies at A-Level and really enjoyed it and are expecting As and our school doesn't even offer Bus Studies at GCSE!

and i don't think its that disrespected by unis cos all my friends have got into good unis!

I did business studies A level and found it really really easy, seriously, I didn't even try and yet was on an A grade after 4 papers (c'mon A overall!) It's all common sense and just thinking - easy.

I didn't do business at gcse and only decided last minute to do it for A level, but definitely glad that I did. The economics people didn't seem to do as well as the business ones at my school; I think economics is a bit harder.

go for business.

At our school, an ordinary comp, we find that Economics students do better. I did GCSE Biz and A level econ, many took A level econ who never did it or biz at gcse and are loving it and doing well; they're not especially clever either. I'd take Economics as there's less work and its very interesting.

Business Studies is overrated, it is considered as a lower version of Economics from what I heard.

Reply 14

You keep talking about how one is better than the other. It is how you find it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Economics covers Macro economics and a little micro economics

AND

Business covers micro economics and a litlle macro economics.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So if you like and are good at macro economics (the country as a whole) the nyou will be good at Economics) but if you prefer more indepth look into businesses and how there run then Business is for you. Personally I prefer Economics  but thats just my opinion. Hope that helped.

Edexcel GCSE Business Studies is one of the most pointless subjects I've taken - it's pretty easy to get the hang of and to be honest you could probably scrape a pass in it with no lessons whatsoever.
I can't imagine someone with it would have much more advantage over someone without at A level

I never did business as a GCSE, but I did do geography and history like you. I found them both boring despite getting A's and A*. I dropped them both and did Business for A-levels, and am so glad I did!
Business is really interesting, and stuff you learn is stuff that is actually relevant to real life. Unlike geography, where identifying types of rocks will probably have no relevance to the rest of your life, unless you become a geologist!
I love Business studies so I would reccomend it

The course sounds interesting, but in reality, it truly is not.
