Lowest predicted grades for Oxford

Does anyone have any idea of the lowest predicted grades Oxford would accept? I didn't do too well in my AS this year. My teachers as willing to predict me ABC, but I am capable of getting three A*s by retakes. I want to study Computer Science, and was originally planning to apply to Oxford. My grades were lowered due to small mistakes adding up and me thinking to hard/misunderstanding questions on my Computing exam.

Can anyone help? My GCSES were good, but my AS has me rethinking now.

You would have to persuade us that you are likely to achieve the standard offer of A*AA. To be honest, that's difficult given the grades your teachers are predicting. You would need to ace the MAT and the interviews, and persuade us that there was a good reason for your low grades in AS.

Where would the persuasion come in? Is there any chance of me getting an interview? I. Guessing that would be decided by an exceptional personal statement.

What did you actually achieve in your ASs? I think with ABC predicted you would be quite unlikely to get an interview unless you have extenuating circumstances.
If you think you can get A*A*A* (and although it is possible, with the information you have given us it seems unlikely) the best option is probably to take a gap year and apply post-results - you will be in a much stronger position than you are now.
Most Oxford applicants will be predicted AAA or higher (or A*AA if those are the entry requirements) and have achieved straight As (or maybe the odd B) at AS. You are clearly at a great disadvantage at the moment.

One of those 'I did rubbish at AS, but im going to get A*s' thread again. Some people on TSR are so unrealistic. Don't have a clue why you're considering oxford. You're predicted ABC, so I guess your actual grades are like BCC/BCD. These threads are ridiculous. If the impossible does happen, which is getting 3A*s, take a gap year and reapply.

By performing exceptionally well in the MAT test, and then (if invited) at interview. The personal statement is a less important part of the process. If there was contextual information/extenuating circumstances around your grades these should go in the reference.

There's nothing wrong with people aiming high. Yes, it's unrealistic, but it's not impossible. The OP is aware of his own abilities - applying to Oxford doesn't hurt anyone, and if he has any sense he'll ignore everyone who tells him he's not worth something on the basis of some AS grades.

Telling him it's unlikely he'll get into Oxford this year is another thing.

Of course there isn't anything wrong with aiming high, but you have to know your limits too. Are you sure that he knows his abilities and it isnt just OP being an incurable optimist. I never said he wasn't worth anything, but thinking about going to oxford with ABC predicted grades and poor AS grade is what a fool would do.

That's what I said in my post. Why did you quote me anyway, was it because I was being harsh? Well welcome to the real world.

I quoted you to balance out your use of the word 'ridiculous', because I don't think threads like this are ridiculous. You are, of course, entitled to think otherwise. I'm simply disagreeing with you.

As to why:

1. I don't think you can be too optimistic unless you take failure very badly, or miss out on other things due to putting effort into something unattainable. Neither are very likely here.

2. The OP is asking an empirical question - what are the lowest predicted grades Oxford would accept.

well as level grades are probably more important, if you had 4 a's at as level you could get in with low predicted grades.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'm gonna apply to Oxford and focus on the MAT and Personal statement. If I don't get an offere and my A2 grades turn out as A*s then I'll consider a gap year. I could actually use one to gain some more experience in the computer science field. If I get less than three A*s then I will look at another uni like Manchester or Bath. Obviously I would apply to all my choices this year, I'm not setting my sights only on Oxford.

you will be up against students, especially for computer science, who will have received straight A's and predicted mostly A*'s.

It's highly unlikely.

If you're predicted ABC you don't stand a chance really, the only possibility is if you perform exceptionally well on the MAT - but someone who is predicted ABC won't perform exceptionally on the MAT unless there's mitigating circumstances surrounding the low AS grades.

I know it’s been 10 years and you probably won’t see this but did you ever apply and if so did you get in?

Be serious bro, op was not making it in 😭
(and if they did, I'm going to cry myself to sleep wishing I was born 11 years ago so I could have a stinker in my AS exams and still get into Oxford compsci)
