Coming to Lancaster next year and interested in joining RocSoc? I remember how daunting it was first arriving and having no idea who anyone was, so why not introduce yourselves beforehand?
Check out our forums and MySpace page and familiarise yourselves with what we're all about.
Looking forward to meeting some of you come October. We're all very friendly. I promise.
We have termly trips to "decent" rock nights like Jilly's Rockworld in Manchester and Krazyhouse in Liverpool.
For most of this academic year we've had our own social every Monday with our own DJs playing requests very loudly in an awesome pub 7pm-1am. We get exclusive drinks deals just for being in RocSoc, which is pretty sweet.
We've also arranged trips to laserquest, unofficial Jilly's allnighters for the hardcore among us, gigs and general BBQs/gatherings/parties throughout the year.
Basically it's a chance to meet a lot of like-minded people who have similar interests and are up for rocking out. Lancaster doesn't have the most active Rock Scene really, so it's pretty cool to know there's a guaranteed awesome night at least once a term.
And yes, drinking is encouraged. Although there are a few non-drinkers among us, who also kick ass.
Haha, I'm not really your typical RocSocer, as my taste in music varies from ska and mainstream indie to really heavy metal. There's really not music I don't like, but a hella lot I don't know. Your best bet is to check out the MySpace page I linked above and go check out a few of the exec's pages.
im a keen enjoyer of the ole rock music but why in the hell dont we have a hard dance/techno/electronica society . anyone interested shud let us know
Been to Half-life? Monthly night upstairs in the Yorkishire House. Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but a few of us are regulars, especially our President who's a bit of an EBM queen.
Got a wide range of tastes within RocSoc, but in our socials we concentrate on metal and rock, obviously.
Yeah ROCSOC!!! i was really worried cause im gonna be moving from Birmingham where i go to way too many gigs and im really into my music so are there many gigs around lancaster? i found a place called something like the crypt which looked promising as i got lost round the town centre but i dont really know anything else... hopefuly see you in october though
I don't see how really. The majority of our regulars at the moment are really into their metal, so at our socials they request metal and it gets played. I request Reel Big Fish, Porcupine Tree and (hed)pe and they get played. We're really open to different tastes in music, and that's what makes it so brilliant.
But, obviously, it is Lancaster's Rock Music Society, so for us not to focus on Rock and Metal would be a bit odd
