im usually there for about an hour, maybe a bit more. If you want to lose weight i would definitely increase the cardio. Is there a cross trainer at your gym? i find that they burn off way more calories than the treadmill (mind you, i cant actually run for long on the treadmill!) and tone up your legs more. I tend to do about 40 mins cardio, 20 mins weights. Apparently, i read somewhere earlier, that to get the best effects you should only do weights/resistance every other day to let your muscles recover. Im not sure how true it is but i think it seems logical really. As someone said earlier, excercisingdoes increase your metabolism so try and keep up with it regularly as you are doing already.

It's a shame i dont practice what i preach very often, then i wouldnt be the fat blob i am!!

The things we go through to lose weight! Keep it up, youre doing well!

yeah there is a cross trainer but i can't get momentum/rhythm on it! I go on the treadmill and have it really high up, and relatively fast, it works, cos i feel fitter!

Weightwatchers = bull****. Its marketing is focused on cynically exploiting middle aged women who want to lose weight. Sorry, it's a stereotype, but it's true. Ultimately, calorie counting is a rather useless pursuit. Losing too much weight too quickly is very unhealthy and is likely to lead to muscles as well as fat being burnt off. The best way to get fit is to exercise hard, and then eat a lot, which is what the OP seems to be doing.

Incidentally, what tell you that you're burning off 500 calories - the running machine? Don't believe it.

Actually, wieghtwatchers works. My mum has lost 3 stone doing the plan, and i have lost nearly 1. And actually, they promote steady sustainable weight loss which is focussed on eating healthily in order to live longet etc.
Theyre not exploiting middle aged women, it just so happens that women generally want to lose more wight than men, and it tends to be at an older age when it is becoming more important to them.

Have you actually tried weightwatchers? if you dont know what its about dont say its bull****

Eating a lot is not going to help weight loss. Excercising hard if your not fit is just going to lead to injury.

Yeah, i found it quite hard to start with but im ok with it now. I think the impact of running makes the treadmill hard for me. Do whatever youre more comfortable with, personally i prefer the cross trainer. I try to alternate between them i'll split it 20/20 or 30/10 out of my 40 mins so i dont get bored. What about swimming? Thats great for overall toning and it a bit more elaxing for if yo want a slower workout.

i have a pool, but i hate going in it! I prefer to go the gym, than swim! i don't run on the treadmill. cos it knackers my knees, so i walk fast at around 7km (i think) most people run at 8/9 so i'm not too far behind

yeah, it was my knees that was the problem ,thats why i go on the cross trainer so i can get my heart rate up more because i can actually do it! I usually just do a fast walk on the treadmill. I used to hate swimming, i have a dodgy foot so my leg kinda kicks in the wrong way but ive got used to it now and can do it for quite a while!
How much weight are you wanting to lose?

i dunno a stone maybe, i'm not bothered about losing the weight really, i just wanna tone everything up.

Yeah, im like that now. Ive lost some weight, now im wanting to tone rather than lose any more. If you want to eat quite a bit youre going to have to excercies like you want to lose weight (doing cardio for calorie burning) so that you stay the same weight, and then keep up with the toning weights. There is no point toning if youre gaining fat on top of it as it wont show! If you can bring yourself to try swimming now and again its great for toning as it works your muscles all over.

Just give it a try! If you stilldont like it after a few trys just dont go again. I was brave and vent to an excercies class by myself a few months ago and i love it now! I needed a bit of variety from the gym to keep me motivated. Aqua aerobics is great too, 30 women splashing around looking like idiots, its great fun!

Why not? Your doctor will be able to weight you, and tell you your BMI and advise you on an exercise routine to suit you.

Didn't realise doctors were personal trainers..

No, theyre not! A nutritionist would be a better person to see, most gp surgeries tend to have one. I think seeing a doc about diet would be wasting their time really, a nutrtionist will get you to see a doctor if they think anything is wrong. Also, they will be able to give you better advice than a doctor, as diet is obviousley their specialism! As for a training programme, see someone at a gym, thay know the machines etc better than a health professional!

My boyfriends mum has just started pilates and she loves it. It has really toned her up and she finds it really relaxing. She cant do excercise with impact so its great for her. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose (apart from weight!)
