So lately ive tried some different fruits to find 5 that i do actually like.

As ive never been a fan of fruit and was lucky if i had 1 portion a month!

so the government has a 5 fruits policy (scrub the 5 veg too thats askin 2 much!), so grapes ive found really nice, but how many is a portion of fruit

any1 know at all?

A hand full. And it's 5 portions of fruit and veg, not 5 portions of each.

Portions vary. I think 'medium piece of fruit' is the guideline. However i know that on the packet of grapes downstairs it says '1 handful is 1 of your 5 a day' So i'd assume a rough guideline is a handful of fruit is 1 portion.

So 1 apple, 2 small plums, a handful of cherries, half a grapefruit etc....

Yeah i always use 1 apple as one portion as a guideline....so 3 apricots, 4 heaped teaspoons of blackcurrants/blueberries, 7 strawberries, one banana, 2 plums are all worth one portion. (hehe just attended a presentation yesterday and it had all the fruit guidelines):p:

Have a glass of fruit juice with your breakfast, and a banana with your breakie too.. have an apple at lunchtime and a handful of grapes/strawberries at some point throughout the day..and have 2 veggies on your dinner!

Easier said than done i know! :frown:

I ate five apples in third-quarters of an hour once, I'm so proud of that.

No it isn't! It's so easy to do once you get your head round the fact that fruit and veg are actually quite nice.

I love fruit, since my diet started I have also been eating a lot more fruit and especially vegetables in my meals, I probably have 3 times the guideline.

Theres also a portion in baked beans.

I remember my mum once hiding fruit from me because she was convinced 10 portions a day was going too far.
I adore my fruit and veg. Mangos and cherries are the best

Veg is better for you than fruit.. and if you're eating all that fruit.. that's just more sugar... (in the form of fructose.. but still sugar)

In some european countries the guideline's about 12 portions.
mmmm, mango. Shame it's so damned expensive, and not exactly the easiest fruit to eat. I usually get 3 or 4 of my portions in my meal at dinner time, and so i've got it pretty easy.

Try some more exotic fruits. I absolutely love lychees, and pineapple and coconut juice is dangerously addictive. Get into a routine of having a glass of (decent) orange juice each morning. you know the drill.
you could try smoothies too?

just have vegetables instead.

most fruit tends to taste the same as well e.g. if you like peaches you'll like nectarines. though how can anyone like peaches? the skin bit with the soft bit underneath. *shivers*
