Could I be pregnant?

Ok, this is quite a long and confusing mess but I could really do with some advice

Firstly, I'm 21, I have been on the pill for 4 and a half years and have never missed a day, nor ever taken it late.

On the 3rd of May I was taken very ill from Uni and ended up having to be confined to bed. This means that the last time I probably had sex was the 1st of May as I am still ill so haven't had sex since first being ill.

On the 12th of May I was taken into hospital because my condition had worsened and they did a urine pregnancy test which they said came back negative. Because I was not moving around much I decided to stop taking the pill on the 13th of May.

Because I stopped the pill I ended up bleeding on about 17th of May until the 23rd of May (I was in hospital for that time and was discharged on the 23rd)

However, I have not seen my period since and it is now 37 days since I last 'came on' and about 31 days since it finished and I'm worried :frown:

Is there any chance that I could be pregnant even though I bled when I stopped the pill? Also, if I last had sex on the 1st of May would a urine test show a positive only 11 days later?

The other problem is that I cannot get out the house without someone taking me as I have bad dizziness and vertigo and so cannot go out and get myself a pregnancy test. Which means I need to tell my Mum but I don't wanna tell her if this could just be due to me stopping the pill mid-packet

I'd be really grateful for any help.
Well, if you haven't had sex since they did the pregnancy test in hospital (which is what I understand from your post) then I should think it highly unlikely! Hospital tests will be able to sense it quite early on, possibly more so than commerical pregnancy tests - not too sure.
And coming off the pill can screw your periods round a bit, as can being ill. Did you have irregular periods before you went on the pill?

No my periods were always regular before I started the pill. I know it sounded stupid but I didn't know whether the hospital could have missed the pregnancy if they did it too early  Thanks anyway

i've heard that pregnancy tests you buy are more effective because you pay more for them and those in hospitals are almost economy versions. my mum had a hospital test 3 times, which claimed that i didn't exist! she did a couple of home testing ones, and i can up straight away. i'd say wait a week, try not to worry, and see what happens. it's possibly, and quite likely that it's because you've been ill though taking another pregnancy test would put you at ease, and i think would be worth it!

I can't see how you could be pregnant. You lateness is prob due to your illness and the fact that you have stopped taking the pill.

What they said ^

I can't see how you could have become pregnant. You've had a urine test (which did not show that you are pregnant) AND you've had your period. I would say it is all just down to the fact that you messed up your system by stopping taking the pill in the middle of the pack. Lots of things can mess up your cycle. It might be down to your illness or stress..a number of things, but I highly doubt that you are pregnant.

If you're worried, do a test/see a doctor
I'd say because of your illness plus the stress on top of it has delayed it, it's very unlikely you are pregnant, get well soon.
After you come off the pill, your periods are screwed around a lot. You had your "withdrawal bleed" (ie. period whilst on the pill) at the right time, when you stopped taking the pill. If you're pregnant on the pill, then you wont have a withdrawal bleed.
11 days is pretty early to test, but I really don't think that you are pregnant. Maybe to set your mind at rest, you could you ask your boyfriend to go to the shops and get a test for you? Or else how would your mum take it?

I'm no expert, but surely being on the pill for four and a half years would muck up your period???

pregnacy is highly unlikely. Pill has probabily messed your hormones up, give it a month or so and im sure you will have a cycle again.

Do you have any other symptoms that might indicate pregnacy?

yes... like a bump. sorry i'll be serious

i doubt that you are pregnant, like everyone has said the pill does muck you periods about. Perhaps you should confide in your mum, at least she knows that you have taken precautions, and that it was an accident. i'm sure she'll be happy to help
